GEORGE EVANS Congratulations to GEORGE who has been selected to represent GB & NI in the Discus at the Junior World Championships in Bydgsszcz, Poland on 19-24 July. There will be further selection/announcement on Tuesday 5 July

GERALD MATTHEW Congratulations to GERALD who will competing for GB & NI in the Mannheim Bauhaus Juniorgala this week-end in Germany, and is a member of the 4x100m relay squad

NEW CLUB RECORD Congratulations to CHRIS BENNETT who set a new Senior Hammer personal best (76.45m) on 18 June at the the Budapest International Open Meeting. Adding 99cm to his (75.46m) which he set on 15 May this year, and is ranked UK No.2 in 2016.

NENE HARRISON Congratulations to NENE who became the British Masters V35 Pentathlon Champion at Horspath, Oxford on 19 June. And recorded a personal best (2057 Points) – 800m (SB 3:10.75), 100m Hurdles (PB 19.81 w-1.5) taking .39 of a second off her 2015 time, High Jump (1.36m), Long Jump (4.13m w4.1), Shot 3kg (PB 9.44m)

OLIVIA LAVA U13 Who was featured in last weeks newsletter, appeared on television last week playing the part of Jack in the CBBC football drama Jamie Johnson.

ENGLAND U20 & U23 CHAMPIONSHIPS Took place last Saturday & Sunday at Bedford. What an outstanding Championships with 38 Shaftesbury athletes competing. Congratulations to our England Champions – PHILLIP CROUT U23 (5000m), GEORGE EVANS U20 (Discus & Shot), NICK PERCY U23 (Discus), REBECCA KEATING U20 (Hammer) and LOUISA JAMES U23 (Hammer). We also won 2 Silver Medals and 6 Bronze Medals.

Outstanding performance of the day came from GEORGE EVANS U20 (Discus 58.43m) which ranks him UK No.1, the Qualification Standard is (58.00m) for the World Junior Championships. There were personal bests from GERALD MATTHEW U20 (100m and 200m) and in the 200m is ranked UK No.6, JAMAL-MARCUS RHODEN-STEVENS U23 (100m), SOPHIA PARVIZI-WAYNE U20 (3000m) which ranks her UK No.7, BEN MCGUIRE U20 (Long Jump), KAYANNA REID U20 (Triple Jump), PHILIPPA DAVENALL U20 (Hammer) which ranks her UK No.5 and BILLY PRAIM-SINGH U20 (Hammer) which ranks him UK No.6. Also GREGORY THOMPSON U23 (Discus) achieved a seasons best, which ranks him UK No.3.

Hammer 4kg – U20W Straight Final REBECCA KEATING won the Gold Medal (57.68m), PHILIPPA DAVENALL (2nd Claim) won the Silver Medal (PB 54.86m) adding 19cm to her 29 May throw, and is ranked UK No.5 U20 in 2016

Hammer 4kg – U23W Straight Final LOUISA JAMES (HCA) won the Gold Medal (60.35m)

Hammer 6kg – U20M Straight Final BILLY PRAIM-SINGH (2nd Claim) 4th (PB 60.58m) adding 28cm to his 1 May throw, and is ranked UK No.6 U20 in 2016

Hammer 7.26kg – U23M Straight Final JAMES HAMBLIN (2nd Claim) 9th (52.67m) 

LONDON INTER CLUB CHALLENGE Took place last Sunday at Lee Valley, and what a fantastic turnout with 52 Shaftesbury athletes.

The match was highlighted by the longest Discus throw ever recorded by an English thrower in this country (62.80m by JADE LALLY in her first attempt, the next 2 were also over both the old best and the Olympic qualifying standard, 62.04m and 61.97m).

SOPHIE BRASSEY U15 Back on the track, SOPHIE ran her first race of the year at Watford last week, with a personal best 800m (2:37.8). This after breaking her leg last year.
