START FITNESS METROPOLITAN LEAGUE – The first fixture of five takes place on Saturday 10 October at Claybury, Essex. Changing is at Ashton Playing Fields Track, 588 Chigwell Road, Woodford Green, Essex (Satnav IG8 8AA). The course is a 10 minute jog away and is where the numbers will be given out. Timetable 1.00pm U11 (Over 9) Boys/Girls (1.5km), 1.15pm U13 Boys (3km), 1.20pm U13 Girls (3km), not before 1.35pm U17 Men and U15 Boys (4km), not before 1.40pm U17 Women and U15 Girls (4km), not before 1.55pm U20, Senior and Veteran Women (6km), not before 2.35pm U20, Senior and Veteran Men (8km).

Note: You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and run.

MATT GRANT has recently sent a ‘We Need You’ email to the majority of our U20 and Senior athletes, and I am sure our Young Athletes will be there in large numbers.

CHARITY RUGBY MATCH – Saracens are promoting two games at Allianz Park on Thursday 15 October (Note track will not be available training that evening). There are two games as part of the evening: England Fire Services vs. Wales Fire Services 17:00 Kick Off and England Legends vs. World Legends 19:45 Kick Off.

NATIONAL SENIOR WOMENS ROAD RELAYS – Took place on Saturday 3 October in Sutton Park, Birmingham. The team finished 14th, an excellent result following their 10th place in the Southern Road Relays.

Note The result is the team position at the end of that leg.

Senior Women (4 x 3851m) – Team 14th (1:02.30), Leg 1 AMY CAMPBELL 19th (15.19), Leg 2 NAOMI TASCHIMOWITZ 3rd (14.34) 8th fastest time of the race, Leg 3 REBEKAH GARDINER 10th (16.13), Leg 4 VICTORIA WALKER U23 14th (16.24). Team result 1st Swansea Harriers (59.14), 2nd Bristol & West (59.51), 3rd Vale Royal (1:00.03), 67 teams finished. Fastest leg Eleanor Vernon of Stockport Harriers (14.11).

NATIONAL YOUNG ATHLETES ROAD RELAYS – Took place on Sunday 4 October in Sutton Park, Birmingham. Another outstanding day for our Young Athletes with the Under 15 Boys becoming national champions again following their 2014 win, the team was DAVID STONE, THOMAS PATRICK and JAMIE HARPER. Incidentally DAVID and JAMIE were in the winning Under 13 Boys team in 2013. The Under 17 Men were 6th, Under 13 Boys and Under 15 Girls both finished in 10th place, and the Under 13 Girls were 20th.

SOUTH OF ENGLAND ATHLETICS OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE – Takes place on Sunday 15 November at Wimbledon College. It looks to be a well thought out Agenda, covering many topics including and update and questions on rule changes.

Attached are the details, if you are not a member of the association, it may be beneficial to join. Otherwise there is a £5 fee for the day.

CHANGE OF INDOOR DATES – Lee Valley have advised me they have changed the following fixtures – London Indoor Games U20 & Senior is now 30 & 31 January (not 23 & 24 January), London Indoor Games U17 is now 23 January (not 30 & 31 January), London Indoor Games U13 & U15 is now 24 January (not 30 & 31 January).

CHANGE OF SOUTHERN MASTERS AND INTER COUNTIES VENUE – Takes place on Saturday 12 December takes place at Shuttleworth Park, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire and not Horspath, Oxford

INDOOR INFORMATION – Towards the end of this month I will issue as a separate email, information including entry details for Lee Valley December to February. Also information on the England, Scotland and Wales Championships which they anticipate confirming these by the end of this month.

NORTH WEST LONDON LEAGUE (POSTPONEMENT) – The second fixture which was due to be held on 24 October has been postponed until later in the season. The reason being the North of the Thames fixture has been arranged for this date.

THE RENOVATION WORKS AT THE SHAFTESBURY BARNET HARRIERS CLUB HOUSE ARE GOING TO PLAN – The air conditioning units have been fitted as have the new light fittings. This week the Club sign has been temporarily removed and two large additional windows have been put in place. A new large portakabin has been erected next to the Clubhouse and the SBH cardio-vascular equipment has been moved into it. We are told by the contractors that the works will probably take a further 3 weeks, which includes the redecoration and works to the roof. In addition, Middlesex University will be supplying new equipment and a new floor for the gym. There will also be a change of access and use, with a Photo/Card entry system on all 3 doors (2 external and 1 internal). Information on how to register for the Photo/Card entry system will be published shortly.

PROBLEMS WITH BACKPACKS – It has been brought to our attention the possible problems, especially schoolchildren, are experiencing by carrying overweight backpacks. I’ve attached a link to the NHS site on the subject http://www.nhs.uk/news/2012/03march/Pages/rucksack-bags-back-pain-children.aspx

Toilets available in Church Hall, no showers and very limited changing facilities, and Church Hall will not be available until 12.30pm.
