ENGLAND 10,000m CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place on Saturday 21 May at the Parliament Hill Fields Athletic Track, Staff Yard, Highgate Road (Satnav NW5 1QR).

This is the qualifying race for the GB&NI team for the Rio Olympics (Qualification Standard 28:00.00)

29th February – Race entry open to Men who’ve run sub 32.00 minutes & Women who’ve run sub 37.30 minutes since 1st January 2015 (track or road)

14th March – Race entry open to Men who’ve run sub 33.00 minutes & Women who’ve run sub 38.30 minutes respectively since 1st January 2015 (track or road)

28th March – Race entry open to athletes who have run sub 38.30 minutes since 1st January 2015 (track or road)

ROGER SIMONS OFFICIALLY GREAT – Congratulations to ROGER who after 60 years service in athletics has decided to take a well-deserved retirement. ROGER joined Shaftesbury in 1956 at the age of 14, and was club Chairman from 1975 to 1982, then club President from 1982 to 1985. He has played a role in the UK governing body since 1982, continually improving club competition. The final years he has worked tirelessly on a new UK Rule Book for 2016 and being part of the Competition Strategy and Official Strategy groups.

OJIE EDOBURUN QUEST FOR RIO – A place on the Rio 4x100m podium is the main aim, and believes there in no reason why the GB relay squad shouldn’t be gunning for gold in Rio later this year.

LONDON MINI MARATHON – Could any athlete who has been selected for their London Borough or Region/Home Nation (Except the London Borough of Barnet), please email me which team you will be competing for.

MEDAL HAUL AT BRITISH MASTERS – The British Masters Championships (Indoor) took place last Saturday at Lee Valley. Congratulations to NENGI OSSAI who won 2 Gold Medals (60m and 200m), CLAIRE SPURWAY won the 60m Gold Medal, LISA WEBB won the 1500m Silver Medal and NENE HARRISON the Shot Silver Medal.

60m – M40 NENGI OSSAI won the Gold Medal (SB 7.05) taking .04 of a second off his 31 January time, and is ranked UK No.1 V40 in 2016

60m – W35 Race 1 NENE HARRISON 4th (PB 8.75) equalling her 14 February time, Race 2 CLAIRE SPURWAY won the Gold Medal (SB 7.95) taking .04 of a second off her 6 March time, and is ranked UK No.3 V35 in 2016

200m – M40 NENGI OSSAI won the Gold Medal (SB 22.69) and is ranked UK No.1 V40 in 2016

1500m – W50 LISA WEBB won the Silver Medal (SB 5:05.84) taking 2.07 seconds off her 14 February time, and is ranked UK No.2 V50 in 2016

Shot 4kg – W35 NENE HARRISON won the Silver Medal (PB 9.95) adding 5cm to her 2015 put, and is ranked UK No.4 V35 in 2016

INTER COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIPS – Took place last Saturday at Cofton Park, Birmingham.

All athletes competed for Hertfordshire unless otherwise stated.

Under 13 Girls – (3000m) ELENA RONCARATI 301st (16.17), 304 runners finished, the winner was Lily-Jane Evans-Haggerty of Victoria Park, City of Glasgow (12.32). Team result 1st Surrey (49 points), 2nd Yorkshire (51 points), 3rd Kent (90 points), 22nd Hertfordshire (410 points)

Under 13 Boys – (3000m) LUCA STUBBS 50th (12.19), DYLAN MICHEL (Middlesex) 109th (12.45), 311 runners finished, the winner was Harley Norman of Epsom & Ewell (11.07). Team result 1st Yorkshire (37 points), 2nd North East (59 points), 3rd Surrey (70 points), 22nd Middlesex (403 points), 29th Hertfordshire (508 points)

Under 15 Girls – (4000m) SARAH BUTLER 146th (19.19), LIDIA KYRIACOU 189th (19.46), SCARLETT KENT 194th (19.50), 302 runners finished, the winner was Kathleen Faes of Tonbridge (16.36). Team result 1st Merseyside (61 points), 2nd Essex (102 points), 3rd Surrey (102 points), 22nd Hertfordshire (403 points)

Under 15 Boys – (4500m) THOMAS PATRICK 20th (16.40), FINN HARVEY (Middlesex) 56th (17.04), HENRY ROCHA 211th (18.19), 305 runners finished, the winner was Zakiraya Mahamed of Southampton (15.36). Team result 1st Hampshire (42 points), 2nd Essex (103 points), 3rd Sussex (125 points), 13th Hertfordshire (259 points), 16th Middlesex (298 points)

Under 17 Women – (5000m) GABRIELLA KYRIACOU 28th (21.22), JESSICA HURLEY 210th (25.08), 267 runners finished, the winner was Cari Hughes of North Wales (19.35). Team result 1st Scotland East (67 points), 2nd Hampshire (82 points), 3rd Kent (125 points), 30th Hertfordshire (529 points)

Under 17 Men – (6000m) ELLIOT DEE 24th (19.59), 250 runners finished, the winner was Isaac Akers of Corby (18.58). Team result 1st Leicestershire (49 points), 2nd Scotland East (63 points), 3rd Kent (92 points), 15th Hertfordshire (270 points)

Under 20 Women – (6000m) CHARLOTTE JOHNSTON 28th (21.22), PHOEBE DART (Middlesex) 126th (28.13), 147 runners finished, the winner was Bobby Clay of Invicta East Kent (20.28). Team result 1st Scotland West (104 points), 2nd North East (122 points), 3rd Greater Manchester (123 points), 13th Middlesex (274 points), 17th Hertfordshire (332 points)

Under 20 Men – (8000m) JAMIE DEE 33rd (29.25), 164 runners finished, the winner was Gus Cockie of Aldershot, Farnham & District (26.49). Team result 1st Yorkshire (52 points), 2nd Surrey (54 points), 3rd Hampshire (146 points), 19th Hertfordshire (378 points)

Senior Women – (8000m) VICTORIA WEBSTER 41st (32.37), VICTORIA WALKER U23 68th (33.24), REBEKAH GARDINER 88th (34.02), JO KENT (2nd Claim) 108th (34.33), 249 runners finished, the winner was Kate Avery of Shildon (29.02). Team result 1st Yorkshire (116 points), 2nd North East (203 points), 3rd Surrey (234 points), 7th Hertfordshire (425 points)

Senior Men – (12000m) KOJO KYEREME (Surrey) 6th (38.53), MARK PEARCE 34th (40.45), PHILLIP CROUT 39th (40.50), GLEN WATTS (Cambridgeshire) 41st (40.58), 261 runners finished, the winner was Dewi Griffiths of Swansea (37.13). Team result 1st North East (78 points), 2nd Scotland East (239 points), 3rd Middlesex (294 points), 9th Cambridgeshire (494 points), 20th Hertfordshire (900 points)

UPCOMING FIXTURES FOR THE NEXT 4 WEEKS (FROM APRIL THEY ARE ALL TRACK & FIELD FIXTURES)

HERTFORDSHIRE, MIDDLESEX AND KENT INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place at Lee Valley Athletics Centre are 61 Meridian Way, Edmonton (Satnav N9 0AR) on Saturday 19 March and Sunday 20 March. Entries closed

SOUTHERN MEN’S 12 STAGE AND WOMENS 6 STAGE ROAD RELAYS – Takes place on Sunday 20 March at the Cyclopark, The Tollgate, Wrotham Road, Gravesend, Kent (Satnav DA11 7NP). Start times 12.15pm Men (6 stages x 4.8km and 6 stages x 7.2km), 1.00pm Women (4 stages x 4.8km and 2 stages x 7.2km). Please note that the Cyclopark circuit is not available to us in the morning until 11.30 due to a Charity Event. However, car parking is available from 10.30am.

There is parking space for 300 cars. There is a parking fee of £2 payable on the day.

Changing Rooms and Café are in the Main Building. Toilets are outside the main building.

A Club Tent area is available on the course about 500m from the car park. Cyclopark allow no music,

barbecues or oil, electrical, gas or other apparatus in their grounds.

How to get there: The Cyclopark is alongside the A2. It is about 5 miles on the A2, east of junction 2 of the M25. From the A2 take the slip road to the A227 (Gravesend Central, Meopham), Turn north onto the A227 take third exit at the second roundabout. Cyclopark entrance is on the right.

Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your respective Team Manager. 

WATFORD OPEN MEETING – Takes place on Wednesday 6 April at the Woodside Stadium, Horseshoe Lane, Watford (Satnav WD25 7HH). Events 7.00pm 100m, 7.15pm Shot, 7.20pm 1500m, 7.45pm Long Jump, 7.50pm 200m, 8.10pm 800m, 8.50pm 3000m.

EASTERN YOUNG ATHLETES LEAGUE COMPOSITE TEAM WITH BARNET & DISTRICT (UNDER 13/15/17 MEN/WOMEN) – The first fixture of five takes place on Sunday 17 April at the Ridlins Wood Athletic Track, Woodcock Road, Stevenage (Satnav SG2 9PA).

LONDON INTER CLUB CHALLENGE INCORPORATING THE LONDON COLLEGES ATHLETIC SERIES (ALL AGE-GROUPS INCLUDING U13s) – The first of four fixtures takes place on Sunday 17 April at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, 61 Meridian Way, Edmonton (Satnav N9 0AR). Is free to all members of Shaftesbury, but why not bring a friend and introduce him to athletics (there is a charge for non-members, £3 for the first event and £2 for subsequent events). Registration opens at 10.30am, and closes 30 minutes before the published start time. All events are for both male and female age-groups unless stated.

The Hertfordshire & Middlesex Championships (Cross Country) took place in Watford on 13 March

6500m – W35 JO KENT V45 (2nd Claim) won the Gold Medal (28.58) 111 runners finished 

The Trafford 10k (Road) took place in Manchester on 13 March

MATT GRANT 97th (PB 32.08) taking 57 seconds off his 2013 time

The Dartford Half Marathon (Road) took place on 13 March

BARRY CHISHOLM V55 253rd (SB 1:45.26) taking 4 minutes 51 seconds off his 7 February time

The NCAA Division 1 Championships (Indoor) took place in Birmingham, Alabama, USA on 11-12 March

1 Mile – Heat 1 SOPHIE CONNOR (New Mexico University) 1st (PB 4:37.67) taking 4.86 seconds off her 13 February time, and is ranked UK No.7 in 2016, in the final SOPHIE finished 5th (4:38.83)

As a member of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers you can apply for a form which will give you membership of Allianz Park, you can pick up the form from the reception at Allianz Park. Any official coach of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers gains entry free of charge.
