The Westminster mile is on Sunday 24 May and the BUPA 10k is on Monday 25 May. Both events start from the Mall & and have a lot more relaxed meeting time of 8am, plus you will receive a packed lunch.

You will be supplied with a t-shirt & goodie bag. If you can volunteer for just one or both events please let us know fairly quickly if possible.

The job description is roughly making sure people are in the right starting pens and general marshalling.

Regards Ray & Clare – Contact them at ray571m@btopenworld.com or 01462 811165

MIDDLESEX CHAMPIONSHIPS UPDATE For those of you coming to Mile End this Sunday 24 May by public transport, we have just heard that Mile End station is closed.

For those of you coming from the West via the Central line, quickest way is to get off at Bethnal Green, take the right hand exit and take a 309 bus from the stop at the top of the stairs (outside St. Johns Church) – the bus takes you direct to the entrance to Mile End track. Bus destination is “Stephenson St”.

For those of you using the district line, get off at Stepney Green and take the same bus.

Limehouse on the DLR and Fenchurch St main lines is just a 10 minute walk to the track.

From Stratford, buses 425 and 25 take you to Mile End station and then 10 minute walk through the park to the track.

UK YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE SOUTHERN PREMIER 1 – The second of four fixtures took place at Lee Valley on 16 May  There were loads of good performances and very importantly athletes being prepared to do the “extra” event to secure the points and the Club’s position in the League. However I will pick out a few to highlight the range of athletes with apologies to those I don’t mention.

On the Men’s side, we were very good with a range of SBs and PBs. In the sprints the highlights came from GERALD MATTHEW, SAM HAZEL, and double wins fromDOMINIC ASHWELL and CHENNA OKOH who dominated the U17 events. Again in middle distance which saw the return from injury of MARK PEARCE and a very promising debut from GEORGE GROOM in the steeplechase. Special thanks to OLIVER GREENSTEIN for taking on the U17 double of 3k and 1500 S/C and to new member ALEX ZANRE who agreed to compete when first asked at 22.00 on Friday night in the U20 3k. The jumps marked the welcome return to form of ETHAN WALSH in the PV and the return to winning ways by ALANDO ALFRED in the TJ. The throws were as good as you get with 2 PBs out of 3 events for both JAMES HAMBLIN and BILLY PRAIM-SINGH, and a 4m JT improvement from ALFIE INGHAM. New member GEORGE EVANS had a solid debut with I’m sure more to come. A special mention for ABBAS ADEJONWO, who had exam revision classes in the morning, arrived just in time for his TJ where he jumped a PB, and then volunteered for the 100m Hurdles and both relays.

The women were greatly weakened by exams and the County Championship conflicts for Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire as well as a number of our U20 sprinters competing for GB Juniors at the Loughborough International. Most women did 2 or 3 events and like ABBAS in the men, LINDSEY JONKER came to the meeting after exam revision classes in the morning. SAPPHIRE CLARKSON had massive new PBs when winning the TJ as well as in the LJ. Thanks to the women who competed even though not 100% fit and toLOUISA PITSIALIS who came as reserve for the U17 throws but actually competed in 3 of the U20 throws. New member PHILIPPA DAVENALL made an impressive debut. We need to be back to our normal team for the third round match at Allianz Park (Copthall) on Sunday 28 June.
