REPORT FROM NICOLE CARA – On the 6th of June Shaftesbury’s female athletes made their way to Bristol to continue our campaign for promotion. Team manager, Nicole Cara, and some athletes left the Shaftesbury Anniversary dinner early in order to be rested and ready for the match. After a big breakfast, we set up camp at the Kip Kieno stadium on a glorious summer’s day. The atmosphere in the team was brilliant. We were off to a good start with solid performances across the board and at first announcement were 2nd. Things really picked up and we had lots of top 3 finishes which pushed us up to 1st place at the third announcement. Once again, due to an inexperienced results team and some barely audible announcement, we were unsure of the final score. While many athletes left to complete their journeys home, the rest of the team waited with trepidation to find out the final score. An outstanding performance had us finish 1st, and over 50 points clear of 2nd place! We are now top of the league and on track for promotion back into the premier league, where we belong. As a team manager I am so proud of how the team pulled together and supported each other- helped by team captain, Lucy Underdown, organising ice buckets for everyone’s drinks, and Grace Conroy encouraging everyone to get to know each other and support the team. The final match is in Wigan on Sunday 9th August.
