NEW CLUB RECORD – Congratulations to LIZZIE BIRD U23 (Princeton University) who when competing in the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey, USA on 3-4 April, won the 3000m Steeplechase in a personal best (10:08.62) taking 4.53 seconds off her 2014 time, also taking .86 of a second of Jo Ankier’s U23 club record (10:09.48) set in 2004. Lizzie’s time now ranks her UK No.1 U23 in 2015. In the same meeting LIAM DEE U20 (Iona College) finished 4th in the 5000m (PB 14:27.26) and is ranked UK No.2 U20 in 2015.

JAKE SHELLEY – After a short break from racing Jake (New Mexico University) competed in the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, California, USA on 3 April, running the 5000m he ran a personal best  (13:52.94) taking 36.99 seconds off his 2012 time, which ranks him UK No.8 in 2015, also No.8 on the SBH all-time performances.

SHAFTESBURY TAKE TO THE ICE AURELIJA IPPOLITO U20, a member of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, came in 3rd place at the 2015 British Long Track Speed Skating Championships held in the Hague, Netherlands in the Ladies 1500m race with a time of 2.53.01. Her brother, MATISS IPPOLITO U17, also a Harrier had 2 personal bests in the 500m with a time of 50.98 and in the 1000m with a time of 1.50.48 . They both started speed skating in October after an induction course in Inzell, Germany and have been training twice a month in the Netherlands. The UK does not currently have a 400m ice rink so training must be done abroad.

LONDON INTER CLUB CHALLENGE ANNOUNCEMENT – The London Inter Club Challenge (LICC) and the newly founded London Colleges Athletics Series (LCAS) have pleasure in announcing that they have agreed to promote their next events jointly at Lee Valley Athletics Centre on SUNDAY 19 APRIL. LICC and LCAS, are both supported by England Athletics, and will be working together to stage this highly innovative meeting which is estimated will attract over 350 athletes.

The competition is graded, has electronic timing on the track and EDM in the field. Registration is now open to London University students to compete in LCAS (www.london-athletics.com/registration) and closes on 12 April. Fees for LICC events are charged at £3 for the first event and £2 for subsequent events and are welcome on the day. Entries for LCAS will not be accepted on the day. LONDON MARATHON – Many of you will be competing on 26 April for the first time, or aiming to run a personal best. If you are running could you email what your running number is, as this will assist me in finding your finishing time and position.

NATIONAL MEN’S AND WOMEN’S ROAD RELAYS – Takes place this Saturday 11 April in Sutton Park, Birmingham , please use the Town Gate entrance to the park (Satnav B73 6BU).Start times Women 12.20pm, Men 1.00pm.

SOUTHERN ATHLETIC LEAGUE 2015, DIVISION 2 WEST – The track season is almost upon us after a successful 2014, winning promotion from Division 3, we now look forward to competing against new teams at new venues.

Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers are a composite team with Barnet & District, both Men and Women competing as one team, minimum age 15 years … no maximum age!

The secret to success, actually it is not much of a secret, is to fill as many events as possible, there are 38 at each meeting and each club has two athletes per event.

Match 1Saturday 25 April at Uxbridge (Satnav UB8 1ES) against Hillingdon, Ealing and Newbury.

Match 2Sunday 31 May at Winchester (Satnav SO23 0QA) against Winchester, Oxford and Worthing.

Match 3Saturday 20 June at Allianz Park (Satnav NW4 1RL) against Epsom, Harrow and Yeovil.

Match 4Saturday 4 July at Abingdon (Satnav OX14 1PU) against Radley, Andover and Wycombe.

Match 5Saturday 15 August at Woking (Satnav GU21 5NZ) against Woking, Plymouth and Highgate.

Is free to all members of Shaftesbury, Entries from athletes from non-member clubs are welcome on the day and are charged at £3 for the first event and £2 for subsequent events. Registration opens at 10.00am, and closes 30 minutes before the published start time. Attached is the Timetable. All juniors and seniors welcome as U17s, U15s and U13s will be at the EYAL.
