STOP PRESS – SBH PREMIERSHIP CHAMPIONS 2013 AND WIN LEAGUE CLUB OF THE YEAR 2013 TROPHY – The British Athletic League AGM was held on Saturday 16 November. There were two important announcements.

Following confirmation of the disqualification (for a drug offence) of a City of Manchester athlete who had competed in Round 4 of the BAL Premiership at Allianz Park, the match was rescored with the original result of 1st SBH 366, 2nd City of Manchester 319 and 3rd City of Sheffield 308 was revised as follows: 1st SBH 366, 2nd City of Sheffield 310, 3rd City of Manchester 295

The revised final Premiership table now reads: 1st SBH 28 League Points (1341 Match Points), 2nd City of Manchester 28 (1248), 3rd City of Sheffield 18 (1058).

SBH therefore retained their premiership title first won in 2012 and will be representing GB&NI in the European Champion Clubs Cup for Senior’s in Portugal on 24 and 25 May 2014.

The JO SMITH TROPHY is awarded to the best UK Club on the basis of their league position on a combined basis in both the BAL and UKWAL at the end of the season. As a result of the revision detailed above, the top 8 Clubs in 2013 are:

1st SHAFTESBURY BARNET HARRIERS, 2nd City of Manchester, 3rd Enfield & Haringey, 4th Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow, 5th Birchfield Harriers, 6th Woodford Green with Essex Ladies, 7th Thames Valley Harriers, 8th Blackheath & Bromley

NEXT SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER IS THE NORTH WEST LONDON LEAGUE, FOLLOWED BY THE NORTH LONDON CHAMPIONSHIPS – Take place in Mad Bess Woods, Ruislip, and there is changing available at Hillingdon AC Clubhouse, 206 Bury Street, Ruislip HA4 7TJ. The course is in Mad Bess Woods which is 10-15 minutes’ walk from the clubhouse, and this is where the numbers will be given out.

Start times for the North West London League are 12.00noon Under 11 Girls (1200m), 12.10pm Approximately Under 11 Boys and Under 13 Girls (2000m), 12.25pm Approximately Under 13 Boys and Under 15 Girls (3000m), 12.45pm Approximately Under 15 Boys and Under 17 Women (4000m), 1.10pm Approximately Under 17 Men (4700m). Tony Smith will be giving the numbers out at the start area. Note: You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and run. Start time for the North London Championships is Junior/Senior Men’s and Women’s race is 2.00pm.Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your Team Manager Simon Keene. 

HURDLES MASTER CLASS REMINDER – Is being held at the Willesden Sports Centre, Donnington Lane, NW10 3QX on Saturday 30 November from 10.30am – 12.30pm.

Olympian TONY JARRETT hosts a free coaching day for budding hurdlers aged 11-18 in London Schools, also in attendance is GLORY ALOZIE Sydney Olympic hurdles 100m silver medal winner.

SHAFTESBURY BARNET HARRIERS AND NORTH LONDON NETWORK, INDOOR TRAINING AT ALLIANZ PARK – The Network have agreed to promote a 10 week training camp at Allianz Park to improve the skills and knowledge of Network coaches and their athletes in Pole Vault, High Jump, Triple Jump and Long Jump. The camp will run from WEDNESDAY 16 OCTOBER to WEDNESDAY 18 DECEMBER inclusive. Following feedback from the athletes and coaches after the first 3 weeks of the scheme, we have decided to modify the arrangements as follows.

The weekly session will start at 19.00 and end at 21.00 (warm up starts at 18.30). The cost to athletes to attend per session will be £3 per head for young athletes (U20) and students and £5 per head for seniors to include entry into the facilities.

PHILLIPA AUKETT HAD A BABY BOY Congratulations to Phillipa and Derek who on the 24 October had a son, Kieran. Phillipa currently lives in Canada (Near Toronto) but regularly comes home, and is hoping to be fit enough to run a few cross country races in January/February. Then concentrate on the 2014 track season.

LONDON YOUTH GAMESTook place last Saturday 16 November at Parliament Hill Fields, with the majority of athletes representing the London Borough of Barnet.

We had three Individual winners JAMIE HARPER U13 Boys, GEORGE GROOM U15 Boys and SOPHIA PARVIZI-WAYNE U17 Women. Attached is a photograph of George (Left) and Jamie.

In the following results our runners all ran for Barnet unless stated. Under 11 BoysMATTHEW CRAIG 11th (5.47), MICHAEL CRAIG 13th (5.49), MATTI HARRIS 29th (6.03), the winner was Olly Wilson of Kingston upon Thames (5.24), 87 runners finished. Team result 1st Haringey 16 points, 2nd Richmond upon Thames 29, 3rd Barnet (11,13,15) 39.

Under 11 GirlsNADIYE WOODROFFE 28th (6.28), TILLY ADAMS 60th (7.05), 88 runners finished. Team result 1st Wandsworth 12 points, 2nd Haringey 28, 3rd Richmond upon Thames 32, 10th Barnet (28,39,42) 109.

Under 15 BoysGEORGE GROOM 1st (9.54), HAMZA KADIR 63rd (11.21), JACK FITZPATRICK 73rd (11.32), RUFUS KENT 98th (11.52), 195 runners finished. Team result 1st Redbridge 24 points, 2nd Southwark 50, 3rd Haringey 50, 12th Barnet (1,63,73) 137.

Under 15 GirlsGABRIELLA KYRIACOU 26th (8.25), SOPHIE BOWEN 38th (8.37), GEORGIE MARLBOROUGH 94th (9.24), CARMEN HOGG 102nd (9.30), TILLY SUTHERLAND-YOUNG 113th (9.40), GEORGINA EMMANUEL 125th (9.46), 218 runners finished. Team result 1st Bromley 19 points, 2nd Wandsworth 28, 3rd Greenwich 39, 7th Barnet (26,29,38) 93. 

Under 17 MenKHALID ALI-AHMED 26th (18.06), the winner was Paulos Asgodom of Haringey (15.59), 127 runners finished. Team result 1st Haringey 16 points, 2nd Bexley 35, 3rd Bromley 43, 8th Barnet (13,26,49) 88.

Under 17 WomenSOPHIA PARVIZI-WAYNE (Camden) 1st (10.33), EMMA DWAN 30th (12.46), GAIA CASCIELLO 52nd (13.45), ELLIE MCNAMARA 60th (14.18), ZOE CAVENDISH 73rd (14.57), LYDIA HERRIDGE 91st (15.58), 121 runners finished. Team result 1st Richmond 44 points, 2nd Enfield 48, 3rd Haringey 48, 5th Camden (1,2,53) 56, 11th Barnet (30,46,52) 128.

The Overall Team positions of all 8 races were 1st Haringey 50 points, 2nd Bromley 46, 3rd Richmond 43, 9th Barnet 34.

LONDON CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPSFollowed on from the London Youth Games.

Women’s resultREBEKAH GARDINER 7th (22.59), MARIE MUNK-JAKOBSEN 32nd (24.47), the winner was L Bromilow of Marshall Milton Keynes (22.16), 135 runners finished. Men’s ResultSAM WILSON U20 29th (3rd Under 20 34.59), RUSSELL DEVITT V60 275th (50.50), the winner was T Smith of Thames Valley Harriers (31.14), 289 runners finished.

CALLING ALL UNDER 13 AND 15 HERTFORDSHIRE ATHLETES – Hertfordshire will be entering teams in the Regional Sportshall Championships on the 2 February 2014, which are taking place at the Hertfordshire Sports Village, Hertfordshire University.  These are U13 and U15 teams (age groups like cross country – as athletes were in the summer). Please note this is an Indoor event.

The trials for the Hertfordshire Sportshall Team will take place at the Gosling Sportshall on the following dates, Sunday 8 December 1.30pm to 3.30pm, and Sunday 15 December 11.00am to 1.00pm.

Those selected will be expected to attend the team practice on Saturday 25 January 1.30pm to 3.30pm, this is also the day of the Southern Cross Country Championships.

Please can you circulate this information to all interested athletes and coaches so that Hertfordshire have the strongest teams possible in each age group. It would be nice to reach the national final in April.

RESULTS – I endeavor to publish as many results as possible, as my main source is the power of 10 website. Unfortunately all races do not make the PO10. Therefore feel free to e-mail me the race, date and result if you have it, if not the result there is a good chance I can find it on Google.

Thursday 28 November – Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers Annual General Meeting – Being held in the Restaurant at Allianz Park, Greenlands Lane, Hendon NW4 1RL The meeting starts at 19.30pm followed at 20.00pm with the presentation of 2012/2013 Cross Country and 2013 Track and Field awards.

Saturday 7 December – Fraternity/Sorority Cups – Being held in Trent Park, Cockfosters Road, Middlesex EN4 0PS. The start is close to the car park which is accessible from the western gate of Trent Park, found on the left-side before reaching Cockfosters underground station (Piccadilly line). The race starts at 2.30pm for Junior, Senor and Veteran Men/Women. Numbers will be given out close to the start area. Note: You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and run. 

Saturday 7 December – North West London League Match 3 – Being held in Trent Park, Cockfosters Road, Middlesex EN4 0PS. Start times Southern Masters 11.00am Men 50 and over (10km), 11.43am Women 40 plus, 50 plus, 60 plus and Men 70 plus (6km), 2.10pm Men 40 plus (10km). Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your respective Team Manager. Start times Inter Counties 11.04am U13 Girls (3km), 11.20am U13 Boys (3km), 11.40am U15 Girls (4km), 12.25pm U15 Boys (4km), 12.50pm U17 Men (5km), 1.15pm U17 Women (5km) and U20 Women (6km), 1.40pm U23 and Senior Women (6km). Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your respective County Team Manager. 

Saturday 21 December – Active Training World Metropolitan League Match 3 – Alexandra Palace which is accessible by road from junction of Park Road, Priory Road and Muswell Hill (western end). Getting there: W3 bus runs through Palace grounds. W7 runs past western end. BR to Alexandra Palace on Kings Cross line, or Piccadilly Line to Wood Green, then W3. Parking: Paddock Car Park from western end – park adjoins start area. Directions by road: A406 North Circular – exit at B550 Colney Hatch Lane, then onwards to Muswell Hill. The course itself: Again pretty flat! Start and Finish on a grass field, the rest is undulating, with a very steep climb/descent in parkland. You will definitely need spikes!

 

Start times 1.15pm U13 Boys (3km), 1.20pm U13 Girls (3km), not before 1.35pm U17 Men and U15 Boys (4km), not before 1.40pm U17 Women and U15 Girls (4km), not before 1.55pm U20, Senior and Veteran Women (6km), not before 2.35pm U20, Senior and Veteran Men (8km). Please go to Active Training World Metropolitan League web site www.metleague.co.uk for information on course maps, directions etc and will be available 2 weeks prior to the race.

Thursday 26 December – Boxing Day Bonanza – Takes place at Allianz Park and Starts at 11.00am. £1 entry fee, there will be prizes, raffle and refreshments, and why not come in fancy dress, and in Ray Powell’s case come as normal.
