SHAFTESBURY TOP CLUB IN ENGLAND – What a day to remember at the National Cross Country Championships which took place in Wollaton Park, Nottingham on 23 February. The Under 17 Men’s team of JAMAL LEWIS, JAMIE DEE, ROBBIE LIGHTOWLER and, GREG COOKE became National Champions winning by 70 points, and now hold the cross country and road relay National titles.
There were Individual Silver Medals from RICHARD GOODMAN who has been outstanding on the country and finished just 8 seconds off the winner, JAMIE HARPER U13 in his third National (7th last year) was only 11 seconds behind. JAMIE along with THOMAS PATRICK, HENRY FULTON and FINN HARVEY won a well-deserved Under 13 team Bronze Medals. The Under 20 Men’s team of MICHAEL CALLEGARI, LIAM DEE, BEN ROCHFORD and MARK PEARCE also won the team Bronze Medals. The Senior Men’s team were only just outside the Medals finishing in 4th place, and what is very satisfying is they finished 5th in the 9 to score Championship. Finally the Under 15 Boys finished in 6th position.
Well done to you all, and especially to the Boys/Men’s teams whose results in the 5 Championships cemented our position as the Top Club currently in England. The aggregate points totals are as follows 1st Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers 1008 points, 2nd Aldershot. Farnham & District 1184 points, 3rd Bedford & County 1270 points and 4th Tonbridge 2404 points
We also won “The Persil Trophy” for the lowest aggregate score in the Senior, U20 and U17 Men’s Championships.
