ATHLOS LDN26 – World-class athletics comes to StoneX
Tickets are now incredibly limited, so I would advise on not hesitating if you’d be interested in buying tickets for the event on Friday 18 September at 7pm.
This event will also be broadcast on the BBC and lots of hard work and organisation has gone into this in the run up to the event for months. This is also a perfect opportunity not only for the world of Womens Athletics, but also for our clubs visibility. The line up is incredibly stacked and it’s going to be an amazing night – which I hope you can all enjoy in some capacity.
There has been some small interference in our home hosted events recently, which we hope remain at bay for a smooth sailing event! Our Official, Gerald, was able to capture this late entry to the 100m at the Club champs last week, Lets hope that Athlos is way past its bed time, with a kick off at 7pm.
EYAL Final
After a strong season our Shaftesbury athletes finished in a respectful 4th place, given the fact they qualified as 6th – this is a great result. Many of our athletes have had a busy track season so have many events already accumulated in their legs.
We Need More Officials!
A big thank you to one of our readers for highlighting just how important our officials are to the success of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers. Just to highlight, Athletes aren’t the only people earning points for the club. At league fixtures, we are required to provide officials, including track judges, timekeepers and field judges. When we provide a full team, these officials can earn the club up to 50 valuable points. At our recent NAL meeting, we received just 15 points from officials, while Chelmsford earned the full 50. For home fixtures, we also need to provide a number of key roles, including the track referee, chief timekeeper, field referee, technical manager, and starting and marking teams.
The club will pay the course fees for members who want to qualify as an official, provided they commit to officiating during the season. Whether you’re a parent, athlete, coach or simply someone who wants to support the club, becoming an official is a fantastic way to get involved and make a real difference. Our officials are an essential part of the club — and we’d love to see more members joining them.
Interested in getting involved? Please get in touch info@shaftesburybarnet.co.uk and help us build a stronger team for the future.
Shifting seasons
Whilst the Track Season nears the end, we have an abundance of events to get involved in, including Road Relays and XC fixtures – most of which I have included in our Calendar below.
I know some emails have been circulated regarding the Southern Road Relays on Saturday 26 September. Entries need to be in before Friday 11 September. These are usually a great team event with a competitive field, so are always fantastic to get involved in.
A reminder of your Team Managers for Road Relays and XC fixtures are outlined below-

Newsletter 2-week Pause
The Newsletter will take a pause until Wednesday 30 September whilst I am on holiday – I look forward to sharing all the excitement from the outstanding NAL fixture, Athlos event and the Road Relays upon my return.
Shaftesbury Alumni
A note from Nick Nieland (Club record holder, Commonwealth Champion, Triple Olympian)
Just wanted to pass on my regards to Geoff Morphitis as he retires.
This man is an absolute legend and played an instrumental role in my athletics career, for which I will always be truly grateful.
Many others would say the same I’m sure – the sport would not be the same without people like Geoff.
Best regards,
Nick Nieland
