SBH MEMBER JADE LALLY WORKING WITH ENGLAND ATHLETICS England Athletics is now running an Athlete Education Zone on its website which is designed to help athletes access information on subjects that are not only beneficial with regards to performance but also relevant to their wider health and wellbeing.

The advice is in written and video form, with videos featuring English discus record holder and Commonwealth Games medallist JADE LALLY covering a variety of topics. This link takes you to the various subjects and videos http://www.englandathletics.org/england-athletics/athlete-zone

Athlete Education Zone Project Manager Jane Fylan said, “We wanted to build a platform to help empower athletes by improving both their Physical and Mental Wellbeing via high quality, credible resources that are relevant to their on-going development as an athlete. We would expect that coaches and parents of young athletes will also access parts of the site as they work in collaboration to provide support to the athletes.

“The internet means that there is a vast range of information available, the Athlete Education Zone site is there to offer assurance that what you are reading, downloading, signposting or listening too is credible and high quality within the relevant field, the athlete can trust the source.

“Therefore, as well as working with recognised partners in providing high-quality and trustworthy advice, we also link to content provided by other organisations where this provides additional value for athletes. For example, we have taken this approach with partners such as the English Institute of Sport, Beat, and Mind.”

Jade commented, “I think the idea of an ‘athlete education zone’ is a really unique one. It can be difficult for people to know where to get credible and trustworthy information on subjects such as mental wellbeing and social media guidance. The Athlete Education Zone helps people to find advice on matters such as these or anti-doping.

2016 ENGLAND ATHLETICS CONSULTATION – LONDON REGION – Takes place on Monday 11 April at the University of London Meeting room, Malet Street, WC1E 7HY. Doors opening 18.30, starting at 19.00 with a finish around 21.30.

England Athletics is pleased to announce the first details of its 2016 consultation programme and would once again encourage as many people as possible to attend this year’s events, whatever their role in the sport. 2016 is the fourth year in which England Athletics has consulted with members, volunteers and participants and like in 2013, 2014 and 2015, there will be an opportunity to attend events that will be held in various locations across the country, followed by an online survey. As part of our commitment to consult with as wide a cross section of the sport as possible, in some regions, the consultation will take place at existing competitions or conferences, such as track and field championships and officials conferences. Details of these can be found below. As we enter into a critical period for the sport, we want to hear your views on how England Athletics can meet its strategic priorities over the next four years, as well as on issues such as how we can better engage youngsters and innovate around competition. (To find out more about our Strategic Priorities please download this Document) We also want to hear your views on how London 2017 can be used to champion grassroots track and field and inspire more people to participate in athletics and running. As ever, England Athletics staff, board members, and councillors will be attending the meetings, so this is an excellent opportunity to have your voice heard on issues affecting both the present and the future, as well as find out more about current challenges and opportunities and the actions that have been carried out as a result of previous consultation exercises. These events are your chance to tell us what is on your minds and to debate issues in an open forum. If you plan to attend one of our formal consultation events please register using the link below to enable us to send you relevant materials in advance, including any details about arrangements for the evening.

To register please email consultation2016@englandathletics.org stating your name, club, and the event you plan to attend. More information on the series will be announced shortly. Please see www.englandathletics.org/consultation-2016.
