JAMAL LEWIS U17 – Finished his cross country season on a high, by being in the winning England Intermediate Boys team in the Schools International at Canon Slade School, Bolton on 22 March. JAMAL finished 7th (17.09) ) the winner was Ben Dijkstra of England (16.23). Team positions 1st England 26 points (1,3,4,5,6,7), 2nd Ireland 61 (2,9,10,11,13,16) 3rd Scotland 119 (12,14,21,23,24,25).

ZANE DUQUEMIN – With just 4 months to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, ZANE has started the season in great shape. Competing in Vaxjo, Sweden on 22-23 March he achieved a seasons best 18.86m in the shot, which places him as UK No.1. In the Discus he also achieved a seasons best 59.93m, and again places him as UK No.1.

AMY CAMPBELL – Competed for Scotland in the Home Countries Cross Country International which took place in Woolaton Park, Nottingham on 22 March. AMY finished in 14th (30.20) the winner was Catherine Blew (Midlands 28.07). Team positions 1st England 11 points (2,4,5), 2nd North 30 (6,11,13) 3rd South34 (3,15,16), 4th Scotland 35 (9,12,14)

DEMPSEY MCGUIGAN U23 – Who is currently studying and training in the U.S.A had his first competition of the year in Oxford, Mississippi on 22 March, threw a massive personal best in the Hammer (66.38) adding 2.78m to his 2013 throw. It puts him 3rd on Shaftesbury’s all-time list behind Mick Jones and Chris Bennett.

HARRY SAGEL U23 – Competing for Rice University ran a season’s best 1500m (3:57.06) in the TSU Relays which took place in Houston, Texas on 21-22 March, which ranks him UK No.8 U23 in 2014.

KEMI OLONADE U23 – Competing for the University of Southern California jumped a personal best 5.92m in the Long Jump in the USC Trojan Invitational which took place in Los Angeles, California, on 21-22 March. This ranks her UK No.6 U23 in 2014.

SOUTHERN ATHLETIC LEAGUE – This season we are competing as a composite team with Barnet & District and we are in Division 3 North. The fixtures are 19 April (Watford), 17 May (Braintree), 21 June (Allianz Park), 12 July (Battersea), 2 August (Allianz Park) the events are for Under 17 Men & Women and above.

WATFORD OPEN AND BMC MEETINGS – I will be re-issuing the Watford Open meeting information as there is a change to the 7 May and 24 May meetings. 4 MEDALS AT HERTFORDSHIRE INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – Recent new ‘second claim’ member FIONA MCQUIRE U17 had an awesome week-end competing for her first claim club ‘Dacorum & Tring’,
winning 2 Gold and 2 Silver Medals. Her Gold Medals were in the 4kg Shot with a personal best 9.35m, adding 20cm to her February put and the Triple Jump with a season’s best 10.14m. The Silver Medals were in the Long Jump 4.70m and 60m Hurdles 9.68.

APOLOGIES TO THOMAS – THOMAS FULTON finished 38th (15.13) in the Junior Boys race at the English Schools Championships last week, in which his Hertfordshire team won the Silver Medals.

YOUR PACE NO RACE – A new monthly event which is being held in Hendon Park on the first Sunday of the Month (6 April) from 11.00am to 12 noon. You choose either 2k, 3k or 4k run, with no timer, no top three prizes and no race numbers – just you, your challenge and a fun, although a £1 donation would be acceptable. LONDON WINTER THROWS FEST – Takes place at Allianz Park on Saturday 29 March. Events are Javelin starts at 10.30am, Discus starts at 12.00noon, Hammer and Shot starts at 1.30pm and 3.00pm dependant on what age-group you are in. Events are for all age-groups including U13s. Entry form and timetable attached

HIGHGATE HARRIERS OPEN MEETING – Takes place at Parliament Hill Fields on Wednesday 9 April. Events are for all age-groups including U11s, you can enter online at www.highgateharriers.org.uk attached is the information flyer. Entries are taken on the night, but you are strongly advised to enter online as these entrants will be given priority.

WINDSOR OPEN MEETING – Takes place at Thames Valley Athletics Centre, Eton on Saturday 19 April. Events are for all age-groups including U11s, please post the attached entry form. Entries are limited to 500 athletes and will close when this number is reached. If this number is not reached then entries will close on Tuesday 1 April.

NEW IMPLEMENT WEIGHTS FOR FEMALE ATHLETES – With the Track and Field season almost upon us, please note that UKA will be implementing weight changes for Javelin, Shot and Hammer for all competitions from 1 April 2014. The new weights are as follows – U17 Women Javelin 500g (previously 600g), Shot 3kg (previously 4kg), Hammer 3kg (previously 4kg) – U15 Girls Javelin 500g (previously 600g), Shot 3kg (previously 3.25kg), Hammer remains at 3kg – U13 Girls Javelin remains at 400g), Shot remains at 2.72kg, Hammer remains at 3kg.

CLUB HOODIES – With over three hundred hoodies already in circulation, this is your opportunity to join the club. They are available to all members who have paid their subscriptions at the subsidised price of £20 + £4 P&P if you require it to be posted to you. The bright red hoody is made to order and has your name embroidered on the front along with the club badge and has the club name on the back.
Let us know the name you want on the front and your chest size. Please e-mail your details to Sandra@pukite.demon.co.uk You will be notified when your club hoody has arrived. It will be available for collection from Allianz Park on Tuesday evenings between 18.15 and 20.15. RESULTS – I endeavour to publish as many results as possible, as my main source is the power of 10 website. Unfortunately all races do not make the PO10. Therefore feel free to e-mail me the race, date and result if you have it, if not the result there is a good chance I can find it on Google.

Saturday 5 April – National Men’s 12 Stage and Women’s 6 Stage Road Relay Championships – Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. Entrance to park for parking will be “Town Gate” (Satnav B73 6BU). Start Times 12.00noon Men, 12.20pm Women. Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your respective Team Manager.

Saturday 5 April – Bedford Open Meeting – Takes place at Sandy Sports Centre, Engayne Avenue, Sandy, Bedfordshire SG191BL. Entries Closed, No Entries on the Day.

Sunday 6 April – Hercules Wimbledon Open Meeting – This is the 33rd Young Athletes which takes place at Wimbledon Park Stadium, Home Park Road SW19 7HX. Events are for U11 to U20 age-groups, with the first event starting at 11.00am.

Wednesday 9 April – Watford Open Graded Meeting – Woodside Stadium, Horseshoe Lane, Watford WD25 7HH, nearest large car park if the facility car parks are full is the Leavesden Country Park off College road WD5 0NR (approximately 1100 metres) which is a continuation of Horseshoe Lane. Age-Groups are Under13 up to Veteran Men & Women (Under 13s may only compete in those events allowed by UK Athletics rules). Entry cost is £4 for one event, £6 for two or more events. Entries from 5.30pm, there may be separate desks for different events.
Start times and events 7.00pm 100m, 7.15pm Shot, 7.20pm 400m, 7.40pm 1500m, 7.45pm Long Jump, 8.00pm 200m, 8.20pm 800m, 8.50pm 3000m. Monday 21 April – London Inter Club Challenge Round 1 Including Quadkids – Lee Valley Athletic Centre, 61 Meridian Way, Edmonton, London N9 0AR. Is free to all members of Shaftesbury, but why not bring a friend and introduce him to athletics (there is a charge of £2 per event for non-members). Registration opens at 10.30am, and closes 30 minutes before the published start time. All events are for both male and female age-groups unless stated. Both track and field events commence at 12 noon. Note: You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and register.

Sunday 27 April – UK Youth Development League Upper Age-Group Southern Premier Round 1 – Sportspark, University of East Anglia, Norwich Research Park, Norwich NR4 7TJ, Under 17 and Under 20 Men & Women.
