Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers Weekly Newsletter Thursday 19 June 2014

Happy Birthday this week to Isaac Archer-Bux, Matiss Ippolito, Christopher McDonald, Stefan McNish, Isaac Lee-Own, Sophie Lewis, Megan Lilly, Freddie Shiret

GEORGE HARRISON MBE – Congratulations to GEORGE who received an MBE in the June Honours List for services to Athletics. GEORGE was a very talented endurance runner who very successfully moved into coaching and team management. He is currently Club President as well as the coach to many of our current crop of talented athletes including KYLE LANGFORD, MARK PEARCE and ROBBIE LIGHTOWLER. In the past he has coached current Club Record holders PAUL HERBERT, MARILYN OKORO and MIKE O’REILLY right through from club novice to International level. He also coached for a short period DAME KELLY HOLMES and a certain footballer/actor VINNIE JONES. One of his proudest achievements is when as a member of the Watford Sports Council 26 years ago, was instrumental in starting the Watford Open Graded Meetings. This commitment has continued right through to the present day as he was at this week’s meeting working on the seeding for the 800m races.
