ELEANOR HUNT In October I’m heading off to Bangladesh for 10 weeks as part of International Citizen Service to work with local communities in need of support on a development project (exact details TBC). As part of this I have to fundraise £800 for Y Care International (one of the development charities supported by ICS). I am doing a range of fundraising activities including a raffle and cake sales. I am also taking on the Live Below the Line Challenge where for one week I spend just £1 a day on food (not an easy task for a hungry runner!) and would really appreciate it if you could share my just giving page www.justgiving.com/Eleanor-Hunt4 in one of your Shaftesbury update emails as I am struggling to get sponsorship! I also have a blog www.icsadventure.wordpress.com where people can find further information. It’s important to note that the £800 does not go directly towards my volunteering trip (as this is government funded) but instead ensures the charity can reach out to more communities in need. Do get in touch if you have any questions. Many thanks

GORDON BANKS Allianz Park Stadium Director is involved in organising a local 10k event in his village, Flamstead which is 30 minutes up the M1 from Allianz Park. EUROPEAN JUNIOR CLUBS CUP The European Champion Clubs Cup for Juniors is an inter-club competition organised by the European Athletics Association on a country by country basis. The competition involves the champion teams, on a separate basis as between men and women, organised as 3 divisions of 8. The GB&NI representatives, are selected following the Youth Development League final, so that the 2013 men’s and women’s winners compete in the 2014 European event. At the 2014 event, SBH for the men and Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow for the women, are in the top division with relegation for the bottom 2 countries and promotion for the top 2 from each division. This year, the top division meeting is being held in Castellon, near Valencia, Spain on Saturday 20 September.

The SBH team fly out on the Friday and return on the Sunday. It is a very high quality meeting with many European and World Junior representatives competing. SBH have been the only GB club to ever win either title when they won men’s title in 2012. For many of our Junior members this is the first experience of international competition. The club pay the bulk of the cost, although each athlete does make a contribution to the weekend. It’s a great team bonding exercise and has formed the basis of our senior success in recent years.

RESULTS – I endeavor to publish as many results as possible, as my main source is the power of 10 website. Unfortunately all races do not make the PO10. Therefore feel free to e-mail me the race, date and result if you have it, if not the result there is a good chance I can find it on Google.
