EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS CLUBS CUP FOR JUNIORS – Took place in Castellon, Spain on Saturday 20 September. The match was a game of 3 thirds, the team were last for the first 2 thirds and facing relegation with 2 nil pointers. The highlights in the first 14 events came from a Hammer win from FELLAN MCGUIGAN and an excellent 3rd place from BEN ROCHFORD with his second fastest time ever – then we came good in the final 6 events, with emphatic victories from KYLE LANGFORD in the 1500m and PHILLIP CROUT in the 3000m, a fine 2nd place in the HJ with a PB from AKIN COWARD, a 4th in the LJ by ADE ADEFOLALU and 3rd place in both relays, which meant the team moved from 8th place to 4th place. Conditions were very good with the temperature in the early 30s. Turkey had a great weekend, with the teams from Fenerbache winning both the men’s and women’s competitions. SBH are representing GB&NI in the 2015 event which is likely to be held in Istanbul.

SENIOR WOMEN AND YOUNG ATHLETES SOUTHERN CHAMPIONSHIPS (ROAD RELAY) Took place on Saturday 20 September at Rushmoor Arena, Aldershot. The weather may have been somewhat overcast, but the performance of our Senior Women and Young Athletes certainly cheered out Team Managers and Supporters and Parents.

The Senior Women produced an excellent performance finishing in 5th place, with BETH POTTER running the 4th fastest time of the race. 10th-9th denotes the runner’s position (time recorded) on that Leg, followed by the team’s position at the end of the Leg.

Senior Women – Team 5th (54.32) Leg 1 SOPHIA PARVIZI-WAYNE U20 10th-9th (13.33), Leg 2 BETH POTTER U23 2nd-2nd (12.41) which was the 4th fastest time of the race, Leg 3 REBEKAH GARDINER 2nd-2nd (13.55), Leg 4 VICTORIA WALKER U23 5th-5th (14.23). Team positions 1st Aldershot, Farnham & District “A” (50.48), 2nd Bedford & County (53.43), 3rd Aldershot, Farnham & District “B” (54.04). Fastest legs (All Aldershot, Farnham & District) 1st Emelia Gorecka (12.35), 2nd Stephanie Twell (12.39) and Lily Partridge (12.39)

The Young Athletes had another excellent day with the UNDER 15 BOYS winning the team Gold Medals, and the UNDER 13 GIRLS winning the team Silver Medals. Individually there were outstanding times recorded by THOMAS FULTON U15 (2nd), FINN HARVEY U13 (3rd), JAMIE DEE U17 (3rd), LIA RADUS U13 (4th), JEREMY DEMPSEY U15 (4th) and GEORGE GROOM U15 (5th). 10th-9th denotes the runner’s position (time recorded) on that Leg, followed by the team’s position at the end of the Leg.

Under 13 Boys – Leg 1 FINN HARVEY 2nd (10.26) which was the 3rd fastest time of the race, Team positions 1st Aldershot, Farnham & District “A” (43.18), 2nd Chiltern Harriers (43.23), 3rd Bedford & County (43.40) – 41 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Van Oudtshoorn Luke of Aldershot, Farnham & District (10.06), 2nd Ethan Fincham of Worthing Harriers (10.25)

Under 13 Girls – Team won the Silver Medal (25.55) Leg 1 MIA GROOOM 7th-7th (8.49), Leg 2 SCARLETT KENT 10th-8th (8.51), Leg 3 LIA RADUS 3rd-2nd (8.15) which was the 4th fastest time of the race, “B” Team Leg 1 BELLA GOODMAN-SPEARS 20th (9.02), Leg 2 GEMMA HARPER 27th (9.22). Team positions 1st Wycombe Phoenix (25.37), 2nd SBH (25.55), 3rd Herne Hill Harriers (26.03) note City of Norwich finished 2nd but were disqualified – 67 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Charlotte Buckley of Thames Valley Harriers (8.05), 2nd Kirsten Stilwell of Wycombe Phoenix (8.06), 3rd Helena Dyce of Cambridge & Coleridge (8.13)

Under 15 Boys – “A” Team won the Gold Medal (38.23) Leg 1 THOMAS FULTON 1st-1st (9.28) which was the 2nd fastest time of the race, Leg 2 ELLIOT DEE 3rd-1st (9.46) which was the 11th fastest time of the race, Leg 3 JEREMY DEMPSEY 1st-1st (9.33) which was the 4th fastest time of the race, Leg 4 GEORGE GROOM 2nd-1st (9.36) which was the 5th fastest time of the race, “B” Team 10th (41.40) Leg 1 HENRY FULTON 25th-29th (10.32), Leg 2 RUFUS KENT 22nd-23rd (10.44), Leg 3 THOMAS PATRICK 9th-14th (10.16), Leg 4 HAMZA KADIR 6th-10th (10.08). Team positions 1st SBH (38.23), 2nd Reading (39.52), 3rd Aldershot, Farnham & District (39.57) – 44 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Tom Bourne of Wimbourne (9.27), 2nd Thomas Fulton of SBH (9.28), 2nd Chey Kemp of Reading (9.28)

Under 15 Girls – Finished 51st (37.42) Leg 1 GEORGIA LEE 65th-73rd (12.59), Leg 2 LIDIA KYRIACOU 25th-50th (11.53), Leg 3 JESSICA HURLEY 45th-51st (12.50). Team positions 1st Aldershot, Farnham & District (32.33), 2nd Bedford & County (32.42), 3rd Wells City Harriers (32.43) – 74 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Jo Curza of City of Portsmouth (10.05), 2nd Sophie Hamilton of Wells City Harriers (10.27), 3rd Cockle Euginie of Aldershot, Farnham & District (10.28)

Under 17 Men – Finished 9th (51.52) Leg 1 KHALID-ALI AHMED 4th-4th (12.29), Leg 2 NATHAN DAVIES 26th-15th (13.49), Leg 3 JAMIE DEE 1st-7th (11.53) which was the 3rd fastest time of the race, Leg 4 CHARLIE GRIFFITHS 21st-9th (13.41). Team positions 1st Tonbridge (48.43), 2nd Aldershot, Farnham & District (48.53), 3rd Cambridge & Coleridge (49.55) – 34 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Mahamed Mahamed of Southampton (11.44), 2nd Christopher Cohen of Tonbridge (11.47), 3rd Jamie Dee of SBH (11.53)

SENIOR MEN’S SOUTHERN CHAMPIONSHIPS (ROAD RELAY) Took place on Sunday 21 September at Rushmoor Arena, Aldershot. Unfortunately we did not field a team, therefore we do not qualify for the National on 4 October.

Senior MenTeam positions 1st Aldershot, Farnham & District (1:50.57), 2nd Serpentine (1:52.00), 3rd Kent AC (1:52.21) – 72 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Scott Overall of Blackheath & Bromley (17.47), 2nd John McDonnell of Luton (17.52), 3rd Andy Maud of Clapham Chasers (17.57)

NORTH WEST LONDON LEAGUE – Takes place this Saturday 27 September on the part of the open space at Horsenden Hill (Known as Berkeley Fields). The venue is The Tir Chonaill Gaels Clubhouse, Berkeley Fields, Greenford.  To access the car park turn off Greenford Road A4127 (opposite main entrance to Glaxo Factory) into Berkeley Avenue.  Entrance to playing fields is directly facing you at the end of the road.  For those using satnav the postcode is given as UB6 0NZ.  You may also wish to use internet link to the football club website

ACTIVE TRAINING WORLD METROPOLITAN LEAGUE – The first of five fixtures takes place on Saturday 11 October at Claybury, Essex. Changing is at Ashton Playing Fields Track, 588 Chigwell Road, Woodford Green, Essex IG8 8AA. The course is a 10 minute jog away and is where the numbers will be given out. Start times 1.15pm U13 Boys (3km), 1.20pm U13 Girls (3km), not before 1.35pm U17 Men and U15 Boys (4km), not before 1.40pm U17 Women and U15 Girls (4km), not before 1.55pm U20, Senior and Veteran Women (6km), not before 2.35pm U20, Senior and Veteran Men (8km). Note: You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and run.

Please go to Active Training World Metropolitan League web site www.metleague.co.uk for information on course maps, directions etc will be available 2 weeks prior to the race.

100 CLUB – Currently RAY POWELL has completed 112 races and RUSSELL DEVITT has completed 103 races. At the end of last season JOHN KELLY has completed 99 races and PHILIP CUNNINGHAM 95 races.

CASH PRIZES will be awarded again this season, firstly for U20 MEN and WOMEN. 1st place £55, 2nd place £30 and 3rd place £15, these prizes will be awarded at each of the 5 fixtures.

SENIOR MEN and WOMEN on a league table system with points awarded at each race, with the best 4 race points total to count. PRIZES are 1st place £575, 2nd place £400, 3rd place £325, 4th place £250, 5th place £200, 6th place £150 and 7th place £100.

LIDDIARD TROPHY AND NORTH OF THE THAMES CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place on Saturday 25 October at Fryent Country Park, Kingsbury. Race headquarters is at the Kingsbury Free Church Hall, Slough Lane, Kingsbury NW9 8QG. Please park in nearby roads, not in the church Hall. Toilets available in Church Hall, no showers and very limited changing facilities, and Church Hall will not be available until 12.30pm. Timetable 1.55pm U17/U20 Men (3 Miles), 2.00pm U17/U20/Senior Women (3 Miles), 2.30pm Senior Men (5 Miles) 

RESULTS – I endeavor to publish as many results as possible, as my main source is the power of 10 website. Unfortunately all races do not make the PO10. Therefore feel free to e-mail me the race, date and result if you have it, if not the result there is a good chance I can find it on Google.

Octathlon U17M DYLAN CARLSSON-SMITH U17 5th (PB 4740 points) adding 219 points to his June total, and is ranked UK No.6 U17 in 2014 – 400m (56.42), 1500m (5:03.04), 100m Hurdles (PB 13.93 w1.7 m/s) taking .07 of a second off his 7 September time, High Jump (PB 1.82m) adding 4cm to his 14 September jump, Long Jump (5.94 w-1.1 m/s), Shot 5kg (PB 11.88m) adding 23cm to his June put, Discus 1.5kg (32.85m), Javelin 700g (44.57m)

The above fees include the 10% discount which is given to members of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, if you are a new member you can pick up a discount form from the reception at Allianz Park.
