ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – The 124th Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers Annual General Meeting takes place at Allianz Park on Tuesday 25 November (not Thursday as reported last week).

INDOOR JUMPS TRAINING – Will take place at Allianz Park on Wednesday’s from 8 October to 10 December. The session is from 7pm to 9pm, warm up and registration 6.30pm. Cost (including entry into the facilities) Young athletes (U20) and students: £3 per session Seniors: £5 per session.

WE NEED YOU – The first Metropolitan League fixture (see full details below) takes place this Saturday 11 October at Claybury. Last season we finished the top club in the league overall, based on the “Howard Williams Trophy” results of the final league position of all the age-groups. The Junior Trophy for the Under 13 and Under 15-17 Men/Women retained the Trophy by a big margin. The Senior Trophy for the Senior Men/Women we finished in 3rd place.

The Under 13 Boys and Girls teams won their league by 122 and 150 points respectively, the U15/17 Men finished 3rd and U15/17 Women finished 5th, Senior Women finished 4th, Veteran Women finished 4th, Senior Men finished 4th and the Veteran Men finished 7th.

The Women’s Prize Money based on the best 4 out of 5 races was won by RACHEL FELTON (£575) with REBEKAH GARDINER finishing 3rd (£325), in the Men’s section GLEN WATTS finished 3rd winning (£325). The Under 20 prizes are awarded at each of the five races, with our Junior Men dominating by winning 4 of the 5 races. 

NATIONAL WOMENS 4 STAGE ROAD RELAYS Took place on Saturday 4 October at Sutton Park, Birmingham. An excellent performance from our Women with RACHEL FELTON recording the 9th fastest time of the race

Team 11th (1:02.31) Leg 1 REBEKAH GARDINER 37th-37th (15.59), Leg 2 SOPHIA PARVIZI-WAYNE U20 9th-15th (15.09), Leg 3 RACHEL FELTON V35 2nd-5th (14.42) which was the 9th fastest time of the race, Leg 4 VICTORIA WALKER U23 26th-11th (16.41), Team positions 1st Aldershot, Farnham & District “A” (57.13), 2nd Birchfield Harriers (59.26), 3rd Aldershot, Farnham & District “B” (1:0014) – 60 teams finished. Fastest legs (All Aldershot, Farnham & District) 1st Stephanie Twell (14.04) and Lily Partridge (14.07), 3rd Emelia Gorecka (14.09)

NATIONAL YOUNG ATHLETES ROAD RELAYS Took place on Sunday 5 October at Sutton Park, Birmingham. The weather was excellent compared to last year’s non-stop rain. The Young Athletes had another excellent day, and this year it was the UNDER 15 BOYS who excelled by winning the team Gold Medals, fastest times (top 10) in the race were recorded by JAMIE DEE U17 (2nd), JEREMY DEMPSEY U15 (4th), ELLIOT DEE U15 (6th), GEORGE GROOM U15 (7th), FINN HARVEY U13 (7th) and THOMAS FULTON U15 (9th). 10th-9th denotes the runner’s position based on time recorded on that Leg, followed by the team’s position at the end of the Leg.

Under 13 Boys – “A” Team finished 7th Leg 1 JUDAH YAWITCH 18th (14.43), Leg 2 FREDDIE SHIRET 19th-17th (14.59), Leg 3 FINN HARVEY 1st-7th (13.49), 7th fastest time of the race, “B” Team Leg 1 DANIEL GREENSTEIN 27th (15.01), Leg 2 MATTI HARRIS 30th-28th (15.33). Team positions 1st Charnwood (41.34), 2nd Warrington (41.50), 3rd Blackheath & Bromley (42.33) – 46 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Samuel Evans of Warrington (13.01), 2nd Ethan O’Shea of Charnwood (13.34), 3rd Oscar Millard of Herne Hill Harriers (13.40)

Under 13 Girls – “A” Team finished 21st (46.41) Leg 1 SCARLETT KENT 21st (15.22), Leg 2 LIA RADUS 4th-7th (15.09), Leg 3 MIA GROOM 24th-12th (16.10), “B” Team finished 35th (50.30) Leg 1 SOPHIA DEMPSEY 50th (17.09), Leg 2 BELLA GOODMAN-SPEARS 39th-46th (16.48), Leg 3 GEMMA HARPER 32nd-35th (16.33). Team positions 1st Wreak Runners (44.27), 2nd Keighley & Craven (44.39), 3rd Liverpool Harriers (44.41) – 49 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Charlotte Buckley of Thames Valley Harriers (14.06), 2nd Mia Atkinson of Charnwood (14.11), 3rd Katie Atkinson of Keighley & Craven (14.13)

Under 15 Girls – Team finished 37th (47.43) Leg 1 LIDIA KYRIACOU 41st (15.26), Leg 2 JESSICA HURLEY 40th-39th (16.03), Leg 3 JOSEPHINE CHADWICK 40th-38th (16.14). Team positions 1st Blackheath & Bromley (42.25), 2nd Bedford & County (42.37), 3rd City of Portsmouth (42.43) – 66 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Josie Czura of City of Portsmouth (13.15), 2nd Katy-Ann McDonald of Blackheath & Bromley (13.37), 3rd Eugenie Cockle of Aldershot, Farnham & District (13.44) 

Under 15 Boys – “A” Team won the Gold Medal (37.50) Leg 1 THOMAS FULTON 5th (12.41) which was the 9th fastest time of the race, Leg 2 JEREMY DEMPSEY 1st-1st (12.31) which was the 4th fastest time of the race, Leg 3 GEORGE GROOM 2nd-1st (12.38) which was the 7th fastest time of the race, “B” Team finished 9th (39.25) Leg 1 HAMZA KADIR 31st (10.32), Leg 2 ELLIOT DEE 2nd-6th (12.35) which was the 6th fastest time of the race, Leg 3 THOMAS PATRICK 13th-9th (13.18), “C” Team finished 38th (42.27) Leg 1 HENRY ROCHA 51st (14.13), Leg 2 RUFUS KENT 23rd-40th (13.47), Leg 3 JACK BLOOM 37th-38th (14.27). Team positions 1st Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers (37.50), 2nd Charnwood (38.33), 3rd Reading (38.41) – 55 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Callum Abberley of Burton (12.20), 2nd Chey Kemp of Reading (12.27), 3rd Joseph Pollard of Charnwood (12.28)

Under 17 Women – We had no runners. Team positions 1st Charnwood (41.36), 2nd Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (41.37), 3rd Aldershot, Farnham & District (41.47) – 41 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Brown H Knowle-Jones of Warrington (12.53), 2nd Niamh Brown of Aldershot, Farnham & District (13.22), 3rd Morven Goodrum of Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow ( 13.28)

Under 17 Men – Finished 18th (38.34) Leg 1 KHALID-ALI AHMED 20th (12.27), Leg 2 JAMIE DEE 1st-3rd (11.37) 2nd fastest time of the race, Leg 3 OLIVER GREENSTEIN 40th-18th (14.30). Team positions 1st Leicester Coritanian (35.11), 2nd Aldershot, Farnham & District (35.32), 3rd Tonbridge (36.05) – 49 teams finished. Fastest legs 1st Ben Dijkstra of Leicester Coritanian (11.19), 2nd Jamie Dee of SBH (11.37), 3rd Sam Stevens of Leicester Coritanian (11.39)

NATIONAL MENS 6 STAGE ROAD RELAYS Took place on Saturday 4 October at Sutton Park, Birmingham. Although we never qualified to compete, these are the results.

Team positions 1st Aldershot, Farnham & District “A” (1:46.48), 2nd Highgate Harriers (1:47.25), 3rd Sale Harriers Manchester (1:47.54) – 77 teams finished. UPCOMING CROSS COUNTRY FIXTURES FOR THE NEXT 4 WEEKS 

ACTIVE TRAINING WORLD METROPOLITAN LEAGUE – The first of five fixtures takes place this Saturday 11 October at Claybury, Essex. Changing is at Ashton Playing Fields Track, 588 Chigwell Road, Woodford Green, Essex IG8 8AA. The course is a 10 minute jog away and is where the numbers will be given out. There will now be an Under 11 Development Race for Boys & Girls starting at 1pm prior to the first League race at 1.15pm. At the Claybury fixture, this will be 1,500m. This is for athletes that are aged 9 or 10 only on the day of the fixture. Any athlete who is aged 11 should run in the Under 13 race.

Start times 1.00pm U11 Boys/Girls (1.5km), 1.15pm U13 Boys (3km), 1.20pm U13 Girls (3km), not before 1.35pm U17 Men and U15 Boys (4km), not before 1.40pm U17 Women and U15 Girls (4km), not before 1.55pm U20, Senior and Veteran Women (6km), not before 2.35pm U20, Senior and Veteran Men (8km). Note: You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and run.

Please go to Active Training World Metropolitan League web site www.metleague.co.uk for information on course maps, directions etc will be available 2 weeks prior to the race.

100 CLUB – Currently RAY POWELL has completed 112 races and RUSSELL DEVITT has completed 103 races. At the end of last season JOHN KELLY has completed 99 races and PHILIP CUNNINGHAM 95 races.

CASH PRIZES will be awarded again this season, firstly for U20 MEN and WOMEN. 1st place £55, 2nd place £30 and 3rd place £15, these prizes will be awarded at each of the 5 fixtures.

SENIOR MEN and WOMEN on a league table system with points awarded at each race, with the best 4 race points total to count. PRIZES are 1st place £575, 2nd place £400, 3rd place £325, 4th place £250, 5th place £200, 6th place £150 and 7th place £100.

SOUTHERN RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place on Saturday 18 October at Wormwood Scrubs, Linford Christie Stadium, Du Cane Road, W12 0AE. Enter main car park off Du Cane Road (via Artillery Lane), through 6’6” height/width barrier. Extra parking will be available in the enclosed/fenced hospital parking area. Parking is free in all areas at the week-end. Start times 11.40am U20 Men (3x3km), 12.10pm U17 Men (3x3km), 12.35pm U13 Girls (3x2km), 13.00pm U13 Boys (3x2km), 13.50pm U15 Boys (3x2km), Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your Team Manager

LIDDIARD TROPHY AND NORTH OF THE THAMES CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place on Saturday 25 October at Fryent Country Park, Kingsbury. Race headquarters is at the Kingsbury Free Church Hall, Slough Lane, Kingsbury NW9 8QG. Please park in nearby roads, not in the church Hall. Toilets available in Church Hall, no showers and very limited changing facilities, and Church Hall will not be available until 12.30pm. Timetable 1.55pm U17/U20 Men (3 Miles), 2.00pm U17/U20/Senior Women (3 Miles), 2.30pm Senior Men (5 Miles), Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your Team Manager

NATIONAL RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place on Saturday 1 November at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire NG18 4JR. Start times 11.00am U20 Women (3 x 2.5K), 11.09am U17 Women (3 x 2.5K), 11.40am U20 Men (3 x 3K), 12.05pm U17 Men (3 x 3K), 12.30pm U13 Girls (3 x 2K), 12.55pm U13 Boys (3 x 2K), 13.20pm U15 Girls (3 x 2K), 13.45pm U15 Boys (3 x 2K), 14.05pm Senior Women (3 x 3K), 14.40pm Senior Men (4 x 5K). Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your Team Manager 

RESULTS – I endeavor to publish as many results as possible, as my main source is the power of 10 website. Unfortunately all races do not make the PO10. Therefore feel free to e-mail me the race, date and result if you have it, if not the result there is a good chance I can find it on Google.

The above fees include the 10% discount which is given to members of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, if you are a new member you can pick up a discount form from the reception at Allianz Park.
