200m – Final ZHARNEL HUGHES 5th (PB 20.02 w-0.1) ZHARNEL following a slightly slow start he ran an excellent race to finish in 5th place in his first Major Championship. He time lowered his own Club Record (20.05) and keeps him as UK No.1 in 2015, also now No.3 on the UK all-time list behind JOHN REGIS (19.87) and ADAM GEMILI (19.98)
WORLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS – Took place in Lyon, France from 4 to 16 August. The temperatures during the first week were around 40 degrees, and then cooled down to around 20 degrees, slightly overcast with light drizzle and wind.
Congratulations to our World Champions NENGI OSSAI (100m and 200m), ANTHONY WHITEMAN (800m and 1500m) and KOJO KYEREME (10000m). Due to a timetable change KOJO was unable to participate in the 5000m as he was still away on holiday.

800m – M40 in the Final ANTHONY won the Gold Medal (1:51.01) finishing 5.56 seconds ahead of Raul Aragon of Spain.
Monday 10 August
200m – M40 Semi-Final NENGI 1st (22.19 w0.1) in the Final NENGI won the Gold Medal (21.75 w0.2) finishing .24 of a second ahead of Junichi Watanbe of Japan.
10000m – M40 Straight Final KOJO KYEREME won the Gold Medal (30:52.09) finishing 58.99 seconds ahead of Fidel Ruiz of Spain. KOJO said he tentatively lead from the front and built up a slight lead after just 3 laps at 76, 75 and 72 secs approx. He reached 1k at 3:07, 5k @ 15:30 finishing with a 66 last lap completing the final 5k in 15:22, and managed to lap everyone except the silver medallist. He will now be taking a short rest now before training for the New York Marathon.

The 3rd place overall was a fair performance overall, but we will do better in 2016 with more of our juniors staking a regular place in the squad.

FIRST AID COURSE – Is being held on Saturday 5 September at Middlesex University. This course is being especially run for local athletic clubs. The course will run from 10.00am to 4.30pm.

LONDON INTER CLUB CHALLENGE (ALL AGE-GROUPS INCLUDING U13s) – The final fixture takes place this Saturday 29 August at Allianz Park, Greenlands Lane, Hendon (Satnav NW4 1RL). Is free to all members of Shaftesbury, but why not bring a friend and introduce him to athletics (there is a charge of £3 per event for non-members). Registration opens at 10.30am, and closes 30 minutes before the published start time. All events are for both male and female age-groups unless stated. Timetable attached.

QUADKIDS – Takes place prior to the London Inter Club Challenge this Saturday 29 August. CLYDE GORDON will be managing the event, with registration from 9.30am, first event starts at 10.00am, and completion around 11.30am, and is free to enter for Shaftesbury members and is £2 for non-members. Quadkids is primarily for school years 3 to 7 inclusive, ie age 7 to 12 and includes the four core disciplines of running (600m), throwing (Vortex Howler), jumping (Long Jump) and sprinting (75m). All are welcome and Parents you may be asked to join in by helping out on maybe one of the events.
