NEW CLUB RECORD – Congratulations to THOMAS CADWALLADER who at the Biggleswade Open Meeting at Sandy on 29 September, broke the Under 11 Boys 600m club record with a time of (1:50.61), the previous record was (1:55.8) set by SAMUEL GREENSTEIN at Watford on 7 June 2015.

START FITNESS METROPOLITAN LEAGUE – The first fixture of five takes place on Saturday 13 October at Claybury, Essex. The  club and team managers would like to see a very big turnout of athletes for this fixtureFor all details see upcoming fixtures below.

Last season was one of the club’s best years overall, individually GIANLEO STUBBS won the Under 11 Boys title winning 5 out of 5 races, 2nd was new member ZICO JONES (Barnet & District last season) and THOMAS CADWALLADER finished 3rd place. Under 11 Girls EVIE REDPATH finished in 8th place. Under 13 Boys SAMUEL GREENSTEIN finished in 4th place and THEO BODEN finished in 4th place. Under 13 Girls LOUISA STAAB finished just outside the top 10 in 14th place. Under 15 Boys JOE HEATHER finished just outside the top 10 in 12th place. Under 15 Girls winner was another new member to Shaftesbury FREYA STAPLETON (Herts Phoenix last season) with GRACE INGLES finishing in 2nd place and ELENA RONCARATI finishing in 3rd place. Under 17 Men DYLAN HEPWORTH finished in 6th place and BEN KELLY finished in 10th place. Under 17 Women featured 4 in the top 10 SOPHIA STAAB finished in 2nd place, JOSEPHINE CHADWICK finished in 4th place, SARAH BUTLER finished in 6th place and finally LIDIA KYRIACOU finished in 10th place. Senior Men with 4 out of the 5 races to count RICHARD GOODMAN won 3 and 2nd in the other, with PHILLIP CROUT finishing in 8th place. In the Under 20 Men THOMAS BUTLER had a comfortable win with JEREMY DEMPSEY finishing in 9th place. V50 Women JO KENT (2nd Claim) won 5 out of 5 races.

Our individual success as you will see was reflected in the final team positions, also we had an amazing turnout at most fixtures. Whereas teams maybe had 2 or 3 finishers only, this is reflected in the team result, but generally we had 5 or 6 runners which enabled us finish above a lot of teams.

These are the minimum finishers to record the best team result – In the Under 11 to Under 17 Men & Women and Veteran Men & Women it is 4 to score, Senior Women 5 to score and Senior Men 12 to score.

Final team positions – Under 11 Boys finished 2nd to Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets by 1 point. Under 11 Girls finished in 6th place. Under 13 Boys finished in 3rd place. Under 13 Girls finished in 6th place. Under 17/20 Men finished in 3rd place. Under 17/20 Women won by an astonishing record points total, winning by 150 points and the “B” team finished 4th. Senior Men finished in 5th place, to improve we need a minimum of 18-20 runners, with a good proportion in the top 50 to give us a chance of improving. Veteran Men we have a good squad of oldun’s therefore we could challenge for promotion out of Division 3. Senior Women unfortunately due to the lack of numbers the team was relegated, so the challenge is there to regain our place in Division 1. Veteran Women overall we are lacking in numbers.

The first fixture at Claybury is the first fixture to count in the SBH Winter Cross Country Points league.

CURRENT DISTRIBUTION OF SHAFTESBURY INFORMATION Currently I notify members (by email) using “MailChimp”. The reason I changed, was in November last year “Gmail” put a limit of 100 addresses that users could send to in a 24-hour period, and currently I send to approximately 850 members each issue.

On seeking technical advice “MailChimp” was recommended as the best way for SBH to go forward. There is one thing you should be aware off is that when you receive an email from me, the footer at the bottom has 4 options, of which one is “Unsubscribe Me From List”. Could I ask you not to select this as if you do you will be automatically removed from my distribution list.
