News

London Marathon 2027 Expands to Two Days
For those who may have missed the news, the London Marathon has confirmed that the 2027 edition will take place across two days: Saturday 24 April and Sunday 25 April 2027. Organisers have announced that the elite women, elite female wheelchair athletes, championship women, and Good For Age women will lead the mass participation event on one day, while the elite men, elite male wheelchair athletes, championship men, and Good For Age men will lead the mass event on the other day.
As a result, the Mini London Marathon will take place on Friday 23 April, although further details are expected to be announced in due course.
The new two-day format will allow up to 100,000 runners to take part, making it the largest London Marathon ever staged.

Summer Competitions at StoneX
On Saturday 20 June, we hosted the first of our Summer Competition series at StoneX. Congratulations to everyone who competed, and thank you to all those involved in organising a successful event.

UK Athletics Championships
The UK Athletics Championships took place on Sunday in Birmingham, where Shaftesbury athletes delivered a number of impressive performances.

Sprint Events
A standout performance came from Zharnel Hughes, who completed an impressive sprint double. He finished second in the 100m with a season’s best of 10.01, before returning to win the 200m title in a championship record 20.04. Zharnel was joined in the 200m by fellow Shaftesbury athlete Ebuka Nwokeji, who claimed third place in 20.55.

Field Events
In the High Jump, Jack Kimani secured second place, while Atkin Coward finished fourth.
Other notable field event performances included:

  • Reuben Vaughan – 9th, Men’s Discus
  • Harley Henry – 6th, Men’s Pole Vault
  • Kenyan Stephens – 7th, Men’s Pole Vault
  • Daniel Bainbridge – 3rd, Men’s Javelin
  • Chris Bennett – 3rd, Men’s Hammer Throw

Distance and Middle-Distance Events
Kristian Imroth showed excellent form in the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase, taking victory in a championship record 8:18.97. In the Men’s 400m, Malique Smith-Band continued his strong progression, finishing sixth and recording a personal best of 45.68.

Women’s Performances
Shaftesbury’s women produced a dominant display in the 400m hurdles, with Emily Newnham and Hayley McLean finishing first and second respectively, both recording season’s best performances of 54.50 and 56.90.
In the Women’s High Jump, Lily Holt finished fourth, with Evelyne Fonteyn placing seventh. Meanwhile, Renee Regis secured fifth place in the Women’s 100m.

Overall, it was an excellent week for Shaftesbury athletes, with championship medals, personal bests, season’s bests, and record-breaking performances highlighting the strength and depth of the club across a wide range of disciplines.
