ENGLAND ATHLETICS U20 AND SENIOR INDOOR COMBINED EVENTS CHAMPIONSHIPS – Congratulation to DYLAN CARLSSON-SMITH whose improvement over the past year has been outstanding.  At Sheffield last week-end competing in the U20 Men’s Heptathlon DYLAN finished just outside the medals in 4th place, recording an awesome personal best of 4808 points, a New Club U20 Record, adding 239 points to his previous total set last year. And compares very favourably to the senior record of 4873 points.  The event results were 60m (PB 7.56) taking .04 of a second off his 2015 time, 1000m (PB 2:56.29) taking 8.11 seconds off his 2015 time, 60m Hurdles (8.72), High Jump (SB 1.84m), Pole Vault (SB 4.22m), Long Jump (SB 6.16m), Shot 6kg (PB 12.60m) adding 5cm to his 2015 throw. GREAT EDINBURGH CROSS COUNTRY INTERNATIONAL – Took place in a somewhat muddy Holyrood Park in Edinburgh on 9 January. We had BETH POTTER and RICHARD GOODMAN U23 competing for Great Britain, and on the day GB had a resounding win over Europe and the U.S.A. In the Women’s race over 6000m BETH had an excellent race finishing in 13th place (21.59), her team mate Kate Avery won (21.05). The Men’s race was over 8000m and was a very competitive race, RICHARD featured on the first couple of laps, and eventually crossed the line in 19th place (26.26). Gareth Heath of USA won the race (25.29) from Mo Farah (25.31).

START FITNESS METROPOLITAN LEAGUE – The fourth fixture of five takes place this Saturday 16 January at Horsenden Hill. Race headquarters including changing facilities, Perivale Community Centre, Horsenden Lane South, Greenford, Middx (Satnav UB6 7NP). Parking: Adjacent roads, also Horsenden Farm opposite Community Centre going north on right hand side over canal bridge. Also car park on horsenden hill itself. Public transport Perivale Underground on the Central Line 10 minute walk. HQ to course walk time 5 minutes. Course description: Undulating, muddy if wet, spikes recommended.

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP REVIEW – Congratulations to our following County Champions – Hertfordshire LUCA STUBBS (U13), THOMAS PATRICK (U15), GABRIELLA KYRIACOU (U17) and MARK PEARCE (U20), Silver Medals from ELENA RONCARTI (U13), JOE CHOTT (U15), ELLIOT DEE (U17) and SAM GRIFFITHS (U20) all Hertfordshire, KOJO KYEREME (Senior Surrey), Bronze Medals from LIDIA KYRIACOU (U15), GEORGE GROOM (U17) and JAMIE DEE (U20) all Hertfordshire, FINN HARVEY (U15 Middlesex).

Our teams were also outstanding, especially at the Hertfordshire Championships, with Gold Team Medals from our U13Girls, U15 Boys, U17 Men and U20 Men, Silver Medals from our U13 Girls and Under 15 Girls, Bronze Medals from our U15 Girls. At the Middlesex Championships our Under 15 Girls won the Bronze Medals. FROM GEOFF MORPHITIS With Christmas out of the way, here are the details of the next official’s course to be held at Allianz Park, Greenlands Lane, Hendon, North London NW4 1RL on Sunday 7 February. We are short of officials for the 2016 Track & Field season. We need your help, particularly at our home fixtures. It is of course your choice in which area you want to qualify in, but at the moment our greatest shortage is Track Judges and then Field Judges. Please let me have your thoughts so that the forms can be completed and submitted early in January. The Club will pay the course costs. I look forward to hearing from you. INDOOR JUMPS TRAINING After the success of the 2014/15 series, the North London Athletics Network, in conjunction with Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, are promoting a further jumps training camp at Allianz Park.

High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump – Wednesdays 6 January to 16 March, 7.15pm to 9.15pm Warm-up and registration from 5.45pm.

Pole Vault – Wednesdays 13 January to 16 March, 6.00pm to 8.00pm Warm-up and registration from 5.45pm.

Coaches – High Jump SUE SMITH, Long & Triple Jump GINTARE DARGEVICIUTE, Pole Vault STEVE LOWE.

The programme is designed not only as an introduction to the event but is also aimed to improve the skills and knowledge of Network coaches and their athletes in all four events. The training camps will be under the overall supervision of CLYDE GORDON, the coaching administrator of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers.

SBH WEBSITE REVIEW – Part 2 – Section ‘About Us’, which includes the following; ‘History of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers’ gives a brief account from our formation in 1890 up to the present day. ‘Club Officers’ includes our President, Vice Presidents, Past Presidents, Life Members and our Council members. ‘Constitution’ which covers the clubs 27 rules.

Club Achievements’ which is in 3 sections, the first is ‘Annual Reports’ each report gives a summary of the clubs achievements over that 12 month period. Reports are from 2000-2001 up to 2014-2015, on the next update of the website the 2 latest reports will be available and the remainder will be archived. ‘Club Records’ will be available on the next update of the website. INDOOR DREAM MILE – Takes place at Lee Valley Athletics Centre are 61 Meridian Way, Edmonton (Satnav N9 0AR) on Wednesday 3 February, Timetable 7.00pm 3000m races, 8.00pm Mile races. In-between will be BMC 800m  races. Cost is £6 per race, and there is a prize of £100 to the fastest male or female times on the night in the mile races. Last year there was a world indoor record for one of the female masters.

The Middlesex Championships took place at Wormwood Scrubs on 9 January

Under 11 Girls – 1500m SARON RICHARDSON 9th (8.36), 26 runners finished. The winner was Lydia Louw of Hillingdon (7.24). No teams completed.

Under 13 Boys – 3000m SAMUEL GREENSTEIN 10th (13.24), MATTI HARRIS 15th (13.47), 60 runners finished. The winner was Adam Ireland of Hillingdon (12.53). Team results 1st Highgate Harriers (21 points), 2nd Ealing, Southall & Middlesex (36), 3rd Enfield & Haringey (48)

The Surrey Championships took place at Dorking on 10 January

Senior Men – 12000m KOJO KYEREME V40 won the Silver Medal (41.31), 231 runners finished. The winner was Phil Wicks of Belgrave Harriers (40.43). Team results 1st Hercules Wimbledon (91 points), 2nd Herne Hill Harriers (143), 3rd Belgrave Harriers (153)

The Yorkshire Championships took place at Ripon on 9 January

Senior Men – 10400m DOMINIC EASTER 7th (38.34), 269 runners finished. The winner was Jonathan Thewlis of Notts AC (37.09). Team results 1st Leeds City (61 points), 2nd Hallamshire Harriers (81), 3rd Rotherham (228)
