EUROPEAN JUNIOR CLUBS CUP – The European Champion Clubs Cup for Juniors is an inter-club competition organised by the European Athletics Association on a country by country basis. The competition involves the champion teams, on a separate basis as between men and women, organised as 3 divisions of 8. The GB&NI representatives, are selected following the Youth Development League final, so that the 2013 men’s and women’s winners compete in the 2014 European event. At the 2014 event, SBH for the men and Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow for the women, are in the top division with relegation for the bottom 2 countries and promotion for the top 2 from each division. This year, the top division meeting is being held in Castellon, near Valencia, Spain on Saturday 20 September.
The SBH team fly out on the Friday and return on the Sunday. It is a very high quality meeting with many European and World Junior representatives competing. SBH have been the only GB club to ever win either title when they won men’s title in 2012. For many of our Junior members this is the first experience of international competition. The club pay the bulk of the cost, although each athlete does make a contribution to the weekend. It’s a great team bonding exercise and has formed the basis of our senior success in recent years.
