ROBBIE LIGHTOWLER WORLD BIATHLE CHAMPION – Robbie won the Youth 15-16 Final in Limassol, Cyprus on 5 October, and won in a time of 9 minutes 23.985 seconds beating Fabian Meeusen of Switzerland by 2.5 seconds. The race started with 1K run, then a 200m Swim, and finishing with a 1K run, unfortunately the results do not include his split times. Great Britain also won the team Gold Medals with Robbie 1st, Harrison Yarnold 5th (9m34.884s) and Zack Holland 8th (9m46.413s).

The ABBOTS LANGLEY TOUGH 10K took place on 6 October on a very warm day, with Shaftesbury featuring in both the 10K and 5K races. The race was started by former Watford footballer Luther Blissett.

In Scotland BETH POTTER U23 following her outstanding run in the recent Southern Road Relays, finished 10th in the Great Scottish 10K which took place in Glasgow on 6 October. With a field of top rated Men BETH ran 34.04 (1st Woman) which moved her up to 3rd in the UK U2310K list for 2013.
123rd ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – Attached is the Notice of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers AGM which takes place on Thursday 28 November at Allianz Park. Any proposal for a change of rule or nomination for office as rule 24 must be submitted in writing to the General Secretary by Friday 1 November (see notice for Philip Cunningham’s contact details).
SHAFTESBURY BARNET HARRIERS AND NORTH LONDON NETWORK, INDOOR TRAINING AT ALLIANZ PARK – The Network have agreed to fund a 10 week training camp at Allianz Park to improve the skills and knowledge of Network coaches and their athletes in Pole Vault, High Jump, Triple Jump and Long Jump. The camp will run from WEDNESDAY 16 OCTOBER to WEDNESDAY 18 DECEMBER inclusive.
The weekly session will start at 18.00 and end at 21.00. The cost to athletes to attend these sessions will be £3 per head for young athletes and students and £5 per head for seniors to include entry into the facilities.
Due to the difficulties associated with PV and HJ, we will be running 2 groups in each event.
PV Group A – young vaulters with PBs over 2m – 18.00 to 19.30
PV Group B – beginners and vaulters with PBs below 2m – 19.30 to 21.00
HJ Group A – beginners and jumpers with PBs below 1.30m – 18.00 to 19.30
HJ Group B – jumpers with PBs above 1.30m – 19.30 to 21.00
HARROW AC SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY CHALLENGE – took place in Hatch End, Harrow on 2 October. In the Under 12 Boys race DAVID STONE (J.F.S Kingsbury) had an emphatic win by 21 seconds (7.15), with SAMUEL LEE (Merchant Taylors) coming home 3rd (7.39). Merchant Taylors took the team title.

NATIONAL YOUNG ATHLETES ROAD RELAYS – takes place this Sunday 13 October – Sutton Park, Town Gate Entrance, Birmingham B73 6BU. Start times 11.15am U13 Girls, 12.10pm U13 Boys, 13.05pm U15 Girls, 14.00pm U15 Boys, 14.45pm U17 Women, 15.30pm U17 Men.
There is a coach leaving Allianz Park at 8.00am sharp, and then will pick up at Westminster Lodge, St Albans at 8.30am sharp.
Sutton Park is a spectacular venue for spectators, so why not take that short trip from London to support our teams. You will also have the opportunity of seeing many of the country’s top athletes running for their clubs
ACTIVE TRAINING WORLD METROPOLITAN LEAGUE – the first of five fixtures takes place on Saturday 19 October at Claybury.
Changing is at Ashton Playing Fields Track, 588 Chigwell Road, Woodford Green, Essex IG8 8AA. The course is a 10 minute jog away and is where the numbers will be given out. Start times 13.15pm U13 Boys (3km), 13.20pm U13 Girls (3km), not before 13.35pm U17 Men and U15 Boys (4km), not before 13.40pm U17 Women and U15 Girls (4km), not before 13.55pm U20, Senior and Veteran Women (6km), not before 14.35pm U20, Senior and Veteran Men (8km). Please go to Active Training World Metropolitan League web site www.metleague.co.uk for information on course maps, directions etc and will be available 2 weeks prior to the race.
Hopefully history will be made again when RUSSELL DEVITT will be our second runner to have run in 100 senior races, also not far away is JOHN KELLY who has completed 97 races (they both ran their first race in 1978, yes 35 years ago).
CASH PRIZES will be awarded again this season, firstly for U20 MEN and WOMEN. 1st place £55, 2nd place £30 and 3rd place £15, these prizes will be awarded at each of the 5 fixtures.
SENIOR MEN and WOMEN on a league table system with points awarded at each race, with the best 4 race points total to count. PRIZES are 1st place £575, 2nd place £400, 3rd place £325, 4th place £250, 5th place £200, 6th place £150 and 7th place £100.
RESULTS – I endeavor to publish as many results as possible, as my main source is the power of 10 website. Unfortunately all races do not make the PO10. Therefore feel free to e-mail me the race, date and result if you have it, if not the result there is a good chance I can find it on Google.
