NEW PBs FROM SBH THROWERS AT US COLLEGES – What a week-end NICK PERCY U23 (Nebraska University) broke the 60m barrier in the Discus with a new PB (60.49m) adding 1.95m to his 2015 throw. At the Husker Spring Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska on 9 April, moving him to UK No.1 in the Discus. The MCGUIGAN brothers were in tremendous for in the Hammer, with big brother DEMPSEY (Ole Mississippi University) becoming UK No.1 with a PB (69.59m) at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Alabama on 8-9 April, adding 1.44m to his 17 March throw. FELLAN MCGUIGAN U23 (Finn Valley University) was competing in the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Arizona on 7-9 April, and also produced a personal best (64.47kg) in the Hammer, adding 1.81m to his 25 March throw, which ranks him UK No.3 U23.
BAL AND UKWL AT THE MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL – The British Athletics League and the UK Women’s League are pleased to confirm that they will be fielding a joint representative team at the Manchester International Athletics Meeting on August 17th 2016.
The meeting will see the team, selected from members of BAL and UKWL clubs who have shown commitment to competing in the league in 2016, up against England, Wales, Scotland and other international teams, in a new climax to the domestic season.
The event will take place at the Manchester Regional Arena and will see athletes from across the UK in action in a meeting that will form the centrepiece of a wider festival of athletics and running.
The BAL and UKWL will publish a full selection policy for athletes and prospective team managers shortly, but priority will be given to athletes achieving their best performances in league competition and who have committed to competing in multiple league matches for their clubs.
Dean Hardman, Chair of the BAL, said, “The British Athletics League and UK Women’s League are delighted to be part of the Manchester International. Both leagues are committed to providing high quality domestic competition for our national level and aspiring elite athletes and this meeting will hopefully be a further opportunity for our athletes to excel.”

SBH PAINTER & DECORATOR RAY POWELL REPORTS – This post box in shefford was covered in grime and dirt I have taken it upon myself to paint it without her Her Majesty’s Government permission so it will look good for the Queen’s Birthday on 21 april. If I get caught and sent down for a 5 year stretch I will wave to you Alan if you are spectating in the next met league fixture at Wormwood Scrubs.
THIS WEEK-END – See the culmination of the Road Relay season, and the start of the Track & Field league season.
Firstly on Saturday 16 April our Senior/U20 Men travel to Sutton Park to contest the National 12 Stage Road Relays which takes place at Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, Town Gate Entrance, Birmingham (Satnav B73 6BU). Following the teams impressive win in the Southern Relays at Gravesend, they should be capable of doing well.
The Track and Field season starts with our Young Athletes, who as a composite team with Barnet & District go to Stevenage, in the first fixture of five Eastern Young Athletes League fixture. The fixture takes place on Sunday 17 April at the Ridlins Wood Athletic Track, Woodcock Road, Stevenage (Satnav SG2 9PA).
Travel arrangements – A coach will be leaving Allianz Park at 9.30am, with a further pick up at the Barnet Odeon cinema at 9.45am. Please advise Joyce or Brenton if you wish to use the coach.

For the remaining SBH athletes and friends we are promoting the first of four London Inter Club Challenge fixtures, which also the London Colleges Athletic Series. The fixture takes place on Sunday 17 April at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, 61 Meridian Way, Edmonton (Satnav N9 0AR).
All age-groups including U13s are welcome, and is free to all members of Shaftesbury, but why not bring a friend and introduce him to athletics (there is a charge for non-members, £3 for the first event and £2 for subsequent events). Registration opens at 10.30am, and closes 30 minutes before the published start time. All events are for both male and female age-groups unless stated.
