The programmes are key steps along the England Athletics talent pathway, the purpose of which is to identify, develop, and support athletes and para-athletes from age 16 and over who have the potential to represent England and Great Britain at domestic and international championships, including Olympics and Paralympics. The programmes, each unique yet perfectly aligned, provide the smooth transition from youth to junior to senior level for the athletes and para-athletes, via the Paralympic Talent Programme, and their coaches. The talent pathway is tailored to meet the specific developmental, educational, and employability needs of the athletes and para-athletes to help them reach their full potential, both inside and outside of the sport.

SARAH BENSON, Head of Talent Development at England Athletics, said: “Firstly, we offer our huge congratulations to all the athletes and para-athletes who have been selected along with their coaches onto our talent programmes as part of our progressive and inclusive Talent Pathway. At England Athletics, we are making it our mission to connect and support developing athletes and para-athletes along their journey towards success, both inside and outside of the sport. We know that helping to enhance the education and opportunities for our athletes and para-athletes whilst at the same time nurturing their sporting ability at each stage of their development is a huge positive step towards them reaching their full potential.”

ALAN RICHARDSON, Youth Talent Programme Manager at England Athletics, said: “The Youth Talent Programme is the start point of the England Athletics Talent Pathway and a big congratulations to all those athletes and coaches who have been selected to the programme this year. Each year the programme grows in strength and is a great opportunity for the development of skills in the technical, physical, and lifestyle areas that will support their journey throughout the pathway. We know that the athletes at this stage of development require support for athlete, coach, and parents and the Youth Talent Programme aims to support all three components of the support network.”

DARREN RITCHIE, Event Group Lead for Jumps and Combined Events at England Athletics, said: “The Junior Talent Programme will provide athletes and coaches with the opportunity to train in performance development environments as they work towards achieving their goals and reaching their potential, whether that is competing in the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, England team internationals or representing and performing for their club to a high level. Each year, the standard is very high and it’s great to see the athletes progress through the talent pathway.”

What is the Talent Pathway? The England Athletics Talent Pathway is designed to provide a progressive support structure for athletes, para-athletes and their coaches so they can develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to reach their full potential and go on to represent England and Great Britain at national and international level. How is it structured? The Talent Pathway is broken down into age-specific, progressive programmes, each tailored to meet the needs of the athlete in terms of where they are on their sport and life journeys. Each of the programmes also provide support for the athlete’s coach, again, relative to the age of the athlete and their specific needs.

Which programme comes first? The Youth Talent Programme, or YTP, is a two-year programme and the first step on the England Athletics Talent Pathway. It is designed to meet the needs of English athletes aged between 16 and 18 years of age who are displaying early potential for future success. The YTP focuses on supporting the athletes in developing a dual career through fulfilling their potential within the sport and in their education and employability. The programme aims to complement provision within clubs and is delivered through a series of technical event-specific training camps and education workshops. Personal coaches are invited to attend with their athletes and offered coach development opportunities throughout the year. For those athletes in full-time education, the YTP enables them to gain an academic qualification. Those athletes not in full-time education will be able to access YTP content and use skills gained from their training to support their personal development and progression without qualifications. There is also the opportunity for coaches to access qualifications, and mentoring delivered through England Athletics coaches.

Which programme comes next? The Junior Talent Programme, or JTP, is a three-year programme and the next step on the England Athletics Talent Pathway. It is designed to meet the needs of athletes who have either completed the YTP and demonstrated their potential to progress onto the next stage of the Talent Pathway or been directly selected. The JTP is delivered through a series of technical event training camps in the UK and overseas. It focuses on supporting, developing, and preparing athletes for competition and the next stage of the pathway through sharing knowledge and best practice. Like the YTP, personal coaches are invited to attend with their athletes and offered coach development opportunities throughout the year.

Which is the final programme on the pathway? The Senior Programme is the ultimate step on the England Athletics Talent Pathway and splits into the Commonwealth Games Programme, which is for athletes who have or are likely to medal at the Commonwealth Games; and the Senior Talent Programme, which is for athletes who have or are likely to be selected for the Commonwealth Games. Places on the Senior Programme are limited hence the need for athletes to demonstrate to selectors that they have the performance characteristics, skills, competencies, knowledge, and resilience needed to succeed at the highest level.

The new year has no doubt brought a laser-eyed focus for athletes, especially that they can now map out what’s possible at the Paris Olympics. The athletics timetable for the Games has been released and offers athletes in the sprints and longer distances – both on the track and road – to double up and maximise their chance of winning a medal. It will be the third time that Paris has hosted the Olympics – previously 1900 and 1924 – and to mark the 100th anniversary of the last time the city held the Games, the opening ceremony will amalgamate a flotilla of boats across a 6km procession along the River Seine.

That will take place on July 26 but as usual athletics fans will have to wait a bit longer with the schedule between August 1-11. All of the track and field events will take place during 17 sessions at the Stade de France. The finals will be held in the evening sessions, while the road events will take place in the mornings on four different days. The athletics action kicks off with both men’s and women’s 20km race walks on August 1 while the first track final will be the men’s 10,000m on August 2. As usual, the last track discipline will be the two 4x400m relays but it will be the women’s marathon, which takes place on August 11, that ends the action at next year’s Olympics. The marathon course will be an arduous journey for athletes as it involves 1584ft of elevation from start to finish.

The schedule means it will be possible for athletes to double up in the 100m and 200m, 800m and 1500m, 1500m and 5000m, plus 5000m and 10,000m, without having to compete in more than one discipline on any given day. Athletes can also double up in the long and triple jump or 20km and 35km walks. There will also be a repechage round in all individual track events from 200m to 1500m in distance, including the hurdles events. It means that athletes who do not qualify by place in the heats of the 200m to 1500m will have a second chance to qualify for the semi-finals by participating in repechage heats. Due to the prioritisation of the World Athletics ranking system – only 50% of athletes will qualify via the entry standards – the marks needed to make the Paris Olympics are tougher than usual.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting out, this guide will help you reach your best performance. Do you know what athletes and casino players have in common? They are always looking to improve, develop skills and break personal records. As in sports, practice makes perfect, which is not different when playing casino games. A casino site with a £10 deposit lets players hone their skills without breaking the bank – sign up for an account and allow them to practice and perfect their favourite  games. In this article, we’ll walk you through every step, from the starting line to the finish line, with tips and advice along the way. So whether you’re running your first 5km or preparing for an upcoming marathon, read on for the essential information you need to cross the finish line feeling great.

The importance of setting a goal – Setting a goal before beginning is essential when embarking on any new training regimen. This will help focus your efforts and ensure that you work towards a specific outcome. Having a goal in mind will make you more likely to stick with your program and see results. There are many factors to consider when setting a training goal. Think about what you hope to achieve through your program. Once you have decided on your main goal, you can begin setting more specific targets. Setting goals will help focus your efforts and ensure you work towards a specific outcome.

Warm-up and cool down   Warming up before a run is important because it helps to increase your heart rate and get your muscles loose and ready for action. A warm-up should last 10 minutes and include light cardio and dynamic stretching. Cooling down after a run is just as important as warming up. It helps to bring your heart rate back down and prevents your muscles from tightening up. A good cool-down should last at least 5 minutes and include light cardio and static stretching.

Keep motivation   As we mentioned before, setting a goal is primordial to staying focused. You can also make sure to have the right gear. If you’re trying to run in old, worn-out shoes, it will be that much harder (not to mention more painful). Invest in a good pair of running shoes and comfortable clothes that won’t chafe as you move. Finally, surround yourself with positive people who will support your efforts. Whether this is joining a running club or finding an online community of like-minded people, having others to encourage you along the way will make all the difference.

Cross-training   Cross-training is essential for runners because it helps to improve their overall fitness and prevent injuries. By incorporating other activities into their routine, runners can improve their strength, flexibility, and endurance. This can lead to personal race records and a more enjoyable running experience. There are many different ways to cross-train. Some of the most popular activities for runners include swimming, cycling, and strength training. Swimming is a great way to build endurance and improve overall fitness without putting too much stress on the joints. Cycling is another excellent form of cross-training that can help runners build leg strength and improve their aerobic capacity.

The role of nutrition   Nutrition plays a vital role in optimising performance and preventing injuries. Proper nutrition helps the body to function at its peak, providing the energy and nutrients needed for physical activity. Furthermore, proper nutrition can help to reduce the risk of injuries by ensuring that the body has the resources it needs to repair and recover from exercise.

Conclusion   It is important to set a goal before beginning any training regimen in order to stay motivated and on track. Warming up and cooling down properly before and after a run is also essential in order to avoid injury. Cross-training and incorporating other activities into your routine is important in order to avoid burnout and maintain interest. Proper nutrition is essential in optimising performance and helping to avoid injury.
