Welcome to the England Athletics Throws Community Newsletter, July & August 2026 edition. The aim of the newsletter is to provide the throws community with updates on competition, training or development opportunity.
If you would like to promote a throws competition, training or development opportunity through future throws newsletters, please send the name, date, venue and web address or key contact details and we will promote it.

Talent Pathway

Youth Talent Programme

The Youth Talent Programme (YTP) is the first step on the Talent pathway designed to meet the needs of identified, talented English athletes/para athletes aged between 16 and 18 years of age and their coaches.
The programme focuses on developing a dual career for the athlete/para athlete through fulfilling their potential within the sport and also in their education and employability. It is supported by London Marathon Events and TASS
Applications for the Youth Talent Programme are now open and close on Monday 7th September 2026 at 9am.

Talent Development Programme

The England Athletics Talent Development Programme aims to support the England Athletics philosophy of talent development by supporting athletes through consistent support in high quality training and support environments known as the England Athletics Talent hubs.
This programme has replaced the previously named Junior and Senior Development programmes that offered camp training days and offer a Talent hub-based support programme across the programme year.
Athletes must be able to demonstrate how they will use and access the talent hub network within their programme application to be selected for this programme.
Applications for the Talent Development Programme are now open and close on Monday 14th September 2026 at 9am.

Performance Programme

The England Athletics Performance Programme aims to support athletes who have the realistic future potential to compete atthe Olympic or Paralympic Games and World Athletics Championships and World Athletics Para Championships.
Applications for the Performance Programme are now open and close at 9am on on Monday 14th September 2026 at 9am.

Women’s Throws Coach Community Group

We are currently accepting applications to join the Women’s Throws Coach Community Group. Applications will remain open until 13 September 2026. To find out more and apply please click HERE.

Track & Field Rater

Age Group Implement Weights for Para Throws

We have proposed recommended implement weights for U12, U14, U16, and U18 para throwers across all throwing events and classifications, for use by competition organisers. The hope is to create a more gradual progression towards the open/U20 world para athletics implement weights. To find out more click here.

Masterclass

Carsten Bomme is the Danish national throws coach, and coach to Katrine Koch Jacobsen (74m); taking her to World and Olympic finals. England pathway physio Lucy Eggleton-Wood will be there, along with UKA para S&C lead Anna Nielson. Alongside throwing sessions there will be workshops which will cover dealing with growth spurts and lower back robustness. The Saturday is for athletes U20 and senior age groups, and the Sunday for athletes U16 & U18. Coaches are welcome to attend both days.

British Wheelchair Athletics Association- Seated Throws Taster Session – The British Wheelchair Athletics Association are holding a seated throws taster session for any athlete or coach who would like to learn more. Anti-Doping

2026 Prohibited List: Summary of Changes

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has recently released the 2026 Prohibited List (the List) which details the substances and methods that are banned within sport. Broken down into several categories, the list identifies which substances and methods are prohibited at all times, in-competition only, and within specific sports.
