125TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – PLAYERS’ LOUNGE, ALLIANZ PARK – TUESDAY 24 NOVEMBER – Over 100 people attended the AGM and Presentation of Awards evening. Club Chairman, Tony Sunderland lead the formal part of the AGM for the year ended 30 September 2015, with Club Secretary, Phil Cunningham presenting the Annual Report and Club Treasurer, Geoff Morphitis presenting the Annual Accounts. The List of Officers for the new year was approved and a special request was made for younger active athletes to join the Club Council to ensure that the wishes of the younger members are taken into account when decision making. The Vice Presidents were re-elected and 4 new Life Members, Phil Cunningham, Ray Powell, Clyde Gordon and Alan Weller were elected.

Club President, Dave Bedford presented the 2015 Track & Field and 2014/15 Cross Country & Road awards to the many winners present. The highlight was the acceptance speeches from ATHLETE OF THE YEAR, Kyle Langford and Ellie Baker, JUNIOR 800m BEST PERFORMANCE, which was live on video from Kenya, where they were both altitude training with the GB Squad. Apologies for non-attendance were also received from Melissa Courtney who was at the same training camp.

ALL-TIME TOP 10 RUN – Running his first ever 10000m Outdoors in Sacramento, California, USA, JAKE SHELLEY ran a personal best (29:26.52) which ranks him UK No.12 in 2015, also puts him in 8th place in the SBH Senior all-time rankings. The race was on 6 December, and was won by Marvin Blanco of Venezuela (28:31.14)

WARM WEATHER TRAINING for the last couple of years, a group of SBH members have enjoyed a short break in Cyprus during the Easter school holidays for some top quality warm weather training. The trip is organised by the parents of one of our members on a not for profit basis. CLYDE GORDON will be leading the squad ably supported by a number of leading coaches from Cyprus provided by their governing body. A detailed handout is attached, so we advise interested parties to get in touch with the organiser as soon as possible for further information and to benefit from the cheaper flights available before Christmas.

START FITNESS METROPOLITAN LEAGUE – The third fixture of five took place on Saturday 5 December at Wormwood Scrubs.

The weather was dull, but the course was somewhat firm. We had 3 Individual winners, DYLAN MICHEL (U13), JAMIE HARPER (U15) and GABRIELLA KYRIACOU (U17). There were top 5 finishes from LOTTIE RACHEL (U11) 5th, SYDNEY ALLEN 3rd (U13) 3rd, LIDIA KYRIACOU 2nd (U15) 2nd, HAMZA KADIR (U17) 3rd and GLEN WATTS (Senior Men) 3rd.

The Under 13 Boys/Girls finished 2nd and 4th respectively, improving their overall position. The Under 15/17 Men’s team finished 3rd and moved up to 5th overall, our Under 15/17 Women’s team finished 2nd following team wins in the first 2 fixtures, but now hold a clear 96 points lead over Ealing, Southall & Middlesex. The Senior Women finished in 4th place, and still maintain their 4th place overall, finally the Senior Men finished in 9th place, but managed to hold onto 6th place overall. 

Under 11 Girls – 1500m LOTTIE RACHEL 5th (8.01), SARON RICHARDSON 12th (8.21), 15 runners finished, the winner was Kate Price of Thames Valley Harriers (7.00).

Under 11 Boys – 1500m, 22 runners finished, the winner was Thomas Day of Slough (6.37)

Under 13 Girls – 3000m SYDNEY ALLEN 3rd (13.30), ELENA RONCARTI 12th (14.39), LOUANN LAMY 19th (15.14), ELEANOR RACHEL 21st (15.28), 37 runners finished, the winner was Ava White of Thames Valley Harriers (13.13). Ray and Clare took on the role this year of organising volunteers for the 4 races, and your support was superb. We are proud to be involved in these races for many years, and the financial support the club receives is most welcome.

THE RENOVATION WORKS AT THE SHAFTESBURY BARNET HARRIERS CLUB HOUSE ARE COMPLETE – Middlesex University have agreed to buy some new weights equipment and are due to be delivered and fitted this week. Middlesex University have arranged for an induction course for all our coaches and elite athletes who are planning to use the new facility for next Monday. We have now received the programmed KEY FOBS which can be used at designated times on all 3 doors (2 external and 1 internal). The KEY FOBS will be issued to all our coaches and elite athletes once they have completed their induction and signed the users agreement.

VITALITY NORTH LONDON HALF MARATHON – After last year’s inaugural success with some 8,000 runners taking part. Next year takes place on Sunday 20 March 2016, which will see a reversal of the route, with the finish line inside the iconic Wembley Stadium. The race will also incorporate Saracens’ Allianz Park at the half-way point and is set to be a truly memorable half marathon.

60m Hurdles – U20M Race 1 DYLAN CARLSSON-SMITH U20 3rd (PB 8.96) taking .55 of a second off his January time, in Race 2 DYLAN finished 3rd (PB 8.93) taking .03 of a second off his Race 1 time 

The English Schools Cup Final took place in Bedford on 5 December

Under 15 Boys – (4400m) HENRY FULTON 15th (15.59), JOSH EDWARDS 22nd (16.10), 140 runners finished, the winner was Finn Birnie of Newquay & Par (15.06)

The Oxford v Cambridge Varsity Match took place on Wimbledon Common on 5 December

Senior Men PHILLIP CROUT U23 (Cambridge) 6th (39.30), WILLIAM RYLE-HODGES U23 (Oxford) 8th (39.40) 16 runners finished, the winner was Miles Unterreiner of Oxford (38.14).

Oxford won the 125th running of the race, and is now 63 Oxford wins, 62 Cambridge wins

The Birmingham League Division 1 took place in Cheltenham on 5 December

Senior Men – (6 Miles) RICHARD HORTON U23 5th (30.57), MARK PEARCE U20 7th (1st U20 31.27) 256 runners finished, the winner was Graham Rush of Cheltenham (30.29).

The BSC Panther Icebreaker (Indoors) took place in Birmingham, Alabama, USA on 4 December

WT15.88kg – Men DEMPSEY MCGUIGAN U23 (Ole Mississippi University) 2nd (PB 19.17m) adding 2.32m to his January throw

The Southern Students Sports Association Championships (Indoors) took place at Lee Valley on 2 December

60m – Men Heat 3 DOMINIC ASHWELL U20 (Oakland College 2nd Claim) 1st (7.08), in Semi-Final 1 DOMINIC finished 1st (6.85), in the Final DOMINIC won the Silver Medal (7.08)

400m – Men Heat 1 OMAR PARSONS U20 (Oakland College) 1st (51.67), in the Final OMAR won the Gold Medal (50.63)

800m – Women Straight Final LIANNE LANGFORD U20 (Oakland College) won the Gold Medal (2:21.7) this is a personal best Indoors taking 1.01 seconds off her February time, Men Straight Final JOSH EDWARDS U17 (CCCU) 7th (PB 2:09.2) taking 5.90 seconds off his May time
