UKA FUNDING FOR 2015-2016 – Congratulation to seven of our athletes who will be receiving funding. The selection of athletes has been based on the potential of winning medals at the Olympics. Our athletes and coaches are as follows – Olympic Podium (potential to win medals at Rio 2016) ZHARNEL HUGHES (GLEN MILLS). Olympic Relays Men 4 x 100m OJIE EDOBURUN (JONAS TAWIAH-DODOO) and Women 4 x 100m DARYLL NEITA (JONAS TAWIAH-DODOO). Olympic Podium Potential (athletes developing towards Tokyo 2020) DAN BRAMBLE (FRANK ATTOH), KYLE LANGFORD (GEORGE HARRISON), ALLAN SMITH (BRYAN ROY) and DAVID SMITH (FUZZ AHMED).

BRITISH ATHLETICS WRITERS ASSOCIATION AWARDS – Took place at the Tower Hotel on 13 November. KYLE LANGFORD was awarded the Jim Coote Memorial Award for Junior Male Athlete of the Year. 2015 has been a year KYLE has excelled, winning the British senior 800m title in Birmingham and the European junior crown in Eskilstuna. In addition he went No.3 on the UK’s all-time under-20 rankings behind David Sharpe and Steve Ovett and represented Britain at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.

The award was received on behalf of KYLE by his coach GEORGE HARRISON and was presented by Martha Kelner of the BAWA. KYLE is currently training in Kenya. Photograph attached.

THE LONDON CHAMPIONSHIPS – Took place last Saturday 14 November at Parliament Hill Fields.

Senior Women REBEKAH GARDINER 6th (24.12), CHARLOTTE JOHNSTON U20 13th (25.06), ZOE LEVIN 34th (26.04), 203 runners finished. The race was won by Steph McCall of South London Harriers (22.31)

Senior Men MATT GRANT 11th (34.37), ROBERT RIGBY V50 82nd (39.13), GARETH EDWARDS V40 159th (41.44), 353 runners finished. The race was won by Chris Smith of Thames Valley Harriers (32.46)

THE LONDON YOUTH GAMES – Took place last Saturday 14 November at Parliament Hill Fields.

A truly excellent day for our Young Athletes, with JAMIE HARPER (U15) and GEORGE GROOM (U17) winning Gold Medals, and SAMUEL GREENSTEIN (U11) winning a Bronze Medal. Also GABRIELLE KYRIACOU (U17) finished in 4th place.

All our runners were representing the London Borough of Barnet (unless stated)

Under 11 Girls – 92 runners finished. The race was won by Amarisa Sibley of Bromley (5.57)

Under 11 Boys SAMUEL GREENSTEIN won the Bronze Medal (5.43), 121 runners finished. The race was won by Marcel Baumard of London (5.40)

Under 13 Girls SYDNEY ALLEN 30th (9.00), ELENA RONCARATI 32nd (9.01), ELEANOR RACHEL 100th (9.47), POPPY MEDENIS 142nd (10.28), 190 runners finished. The race was won by Lulu King of Herne Hill (7.55)

Under 13 Boys DYLAN MICHEL 27th (8.08), JOSH MORGAN 170th (10.21), 185 runners finished. The race was won by Jaden Kennedy of Herne Hill (7.35)

Under 15 Girls JOSEPHINE CHADWICK 15th (8.22), LIDIA KYRIACOU 20th (8.24), MIA GROOM 31st (8.41), KAYLA MICHEL 60th (9.09), SCARLETT KENT 76th (9.24), GEMMA HARPER 115th (10.04), LILY RACHEL 124th (10.14), 181 runners finished. The race was won by Eimear Griffin of Herne Hill (7.48)

Under 15 Boys JAMIE HARPER won the Gold Medal (10.37), FINN HARVEY 11th (11.13), DANIEL GREENSTEIN 71st (12.21), NATHAN TADESSE 115th (13.23), SHAY KOHLER 140th (14.37), 154 runners finished.

Under 17 Women GABRIELLE KYRIACOU 4th (11.48), REBECCA ANDREOU (Enfield) 44th (14.31), 107 runners finished. The race was won by Sabrina Sinha of Cambridge Harriers (11.05)

Under 17 Men GEORGE GROOM won the Gold Medal (17.14), OLIVER GREENSTEIN 56th (19.58), 124 runners finished.

AMMENDMENT CHARLOTTE JOHNSTON U20 who ran at Stevenage last week, in fact was cleared as a 1st Claim member from 1 November, also the time for AMALIA EDWARDS U20 was (30.19)

SBH MEMBERS INJURY CLINIC, PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSESSMENT KATIE DOODY and JONATHAN VARNAVAS are taking a winter break from the regular Tuesday and Thursday sessions. THE RENOVATION WORKS AT THE SHAFTESBURY BARNET HARRIERS CLUB HOUSE ARE NEARLY COMPLETE – Middlesex University have agreed to buy some new weights equipment and are now waiting for the items to be delivered and fitted. We have been given no firm indication as to when this will happen. All building works have been completed. As soon as the equipment arrives, Middlesex University will arrange for an induction course for all our coaches and elite athletes who are planning to use the new facility. There will also be a change of access and use, with a FOB entry system on all 3 doors (2 external and 1 internal). Information on how to register for the new entry system will be published next week. 

VIRGIN MONEY LONDON MARATHON – SUNDAY 24 APRIL 2016 – It’s that time of year again with the London Marathon just 6 months away. The club has been allocated 2 places.  These places are for active club members that were unsuccessful in the ballot.  Places will be allocated based on issues such as length of membership, participation for the club in recent years etc.  To apply for one of these Club places you will need to send proof of application/rejection to our Club Secretary, Phil Cunningham by email to billylow@ntlworld.com by Monday 16 November at which time a decision will be made by the Club Officers.

FRATERNITY AND SORORITY CUPS – Takes place on Saturday 28 November at Trent Park, Cockfosters Road, Middlesex (SatNav EN4 0PS). The start is close to the car park which is accessible from the western gate of Trent Park, found on the left-side before reaching Cockfosters underground station (Piccadilly line). The race starts at 2.30pm for Men/Women – Junior, Senior and Veteran. Numbers will be given out close to the start area.

NORTH WEST LONDON LEAGUE – The second fixture of five takes place on Saturday 28 November at Trent Park, Cockfosters Road, Middlesex (SatNav EN4 0PS). Enter main car park off Du Cane Road (via Artillery Lane), through 6’6” height/width barrier. Extra parking will be available in the enclosed/fenced hospital parking area. Parking is free in all areas at the week-end. Timetable 1.00pm U11 (Over 9) Boys/Girls (1.5km), 1.15pm U13 Boys (3km), 1.20pm U13 Girls (3km), not before 1.35pm U17 Men and U15 Boys (4km), not before 1.40pm U17 Women and U15 Girls (4km), not before 1.55pm U20, Senior and Veteran Women (6km), not before 2.35pm U20, Senior and Veteran Men (8km).

WINDSOR, SLOUGH, ETON & HOUNSLOW INDOOR MEETING – Takes place at Thames Valley Athletics Centre, Pococks Lane, Eton (Satnav SL4 6HN) on Sunday 6 December. As a member of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers you can apply for a form which will give you membership of Allianz Park, you can pick up the form from the reception at Allianz Park. Any official coach of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers gains entry free of charge.
