WORLD INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS Took place in Belgrade, Serbia from 18-20 March.
SCOTT LINCOLN, who started the year off with an indoor Shot personal best of (20.73m) at the BoXX United Manchester World Indoor Tour, only managed (19.65m) and finished 16th out of a possible 17 places, in what was a difficult evening for the six-time British indoor champion.
RYAN CROUSER suffered his first defeat (22.44m) in the shot put in three years as Brazil’s DARLAN ROMANI, who claimed the first major medal of his career, took home a surprise World Indoor gold in a championship record of (22.53m). The last time CROUSER, the reigning Olympic shot put champion and world record-holder both indoors and out, lost an event was way back at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. Such a surprise loss speaks volumes of his recent dominance. The American holds four out of the top five indoor throws in history and was unbeaten in 32 outings heading into Belgrade. The bronze medal was won by TOM WALSH of New Zealand with (22.31m).

REQUEST FROM REBECCA JEGGO REBECCA joined Shaftesbury in 2017, and is an outstanding sprinter, having represented the club in the UK Youth Development League, UK Women’s League and the National Athletics League. Individually she won the British Indoor and Outdoor 200m bronze medals in 2020, and was also a finalist that year in the Indoor 60m and Outdoor 100m British Finals. In 2021 she won the 4x100m relay gold medal at the Manchester International representing England. This year in the 200m she won the Southern bronze medal, was a finalist in the British Championships, and a silver medallist in the BUCS Championships. REBECCA is currently ranked 200m UK No.7 U23 in 2022.

I am involved with the University of Essex project for UK track and field athletes (18+ years old) who are competing in the 2022 track season to complete a short online questionnaire which should take approximately 5 minutes before the start of the outdoor season. In addition to this, any athlete that completes the questionnaire will be contacted directly to fill out another 5-minute questionnaire at the mid-point (end of June) and then at the endpoint of the 2022 athletics season (early September) via email provided within the first questionnaire.
The project itself looks into how athlete burnout changes and influences performance across an athletics season. It is anticipated that the findings will provide the first evidence into understanding the extent that the mental health and wellbeing of an athlete may be tied to their performance. Once the study is completed, the findings will be distributed to all the athletes that participated. The results are likely to have direct implications for athlete performance, wellbeing, and career longevity. We anticipate this information will be useful to practitioners, coaches, and athletes when trying to raise awareness of athlete burnout in terms of how it develops and its consequences.

CAN YOU HELP PLEASEI would welcome any contributions From Yourselves, any impending marriages, or additions to the family, any running or competing incidents, also past warm weather training/holidays (No Club 24 please). Currently the response has been excellent, but if you have anything that could make it into next week’s Newsletter – please email me.

CURRENT DISTRIBUTION OF SHAFTESBURY INFORMATION Currently I notify members (by email) using “MailChimp”. The reason I changed, was in November 2017 “Gmail” put a limit of 100 addresses that users could send to in a 24-hour period, and currently I send to approximately 850 members each issue.

On seeking technical advice “MailChimp” was recommended as the best way for SBH to go forward. There is one thing you should be aware off is that when you receive an email from me, the footer at the bottom has 4 options, of which one is “Unsubscribe Me From List”. Could I ask you not to select this as if you do you will be automatically removed from my distribution list.
