CLUB INDOOR RECORD – Congratulations to ALLAN SMITH who equalled his own Club Indoor High Jump Record (set in February 2014) jumping 2.24m in the Meeting National en Salle D’Hirson in Hirson, France on 18 January. He is currently ranked UK No.1 in 2015.

SOUTHERN CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place this Saturday 24 January at Stanmer Park, Lewes Road, Brighton (SatNav BN1 9SE) we wish all our athletes a successful and injury free run.

Timetable – 11.00am U15 Boys (4500m), 11.20am U13 Girls (3000m), 11.35am U13 Boys (3000m), 11.50am U15 Girls (4000m), 12.10pm U17 Men (6000m), 12.40pm U20 Women (6000m), 1.05pm U17 Women (5000m), 1.30pm U20 Men (8000m), 2.05pm Senior Women (8000m), 2.50pm Senior Men (15000m). Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your Team Manager

This is the Club Championship race for all the Women age-groups, and U13/U15 Boys, U17 Men and 9 Miles Senior Men.

MASTERS ROAD RELAYS – Takes place at Sutton Park, Birmingham on Saturday 16 May. I have decided as a one off to organise in getting a Men’s team or two toeing the line. The categories are 35+ (6 to a team), 45+ (4), 55+ (3), ages are on the day of the race. Athletes in older age-groups may compete in a younger age-group.

The next step is to EMAIL ME whether you wish to compete, or not. MAGGIE will be contacting her Women.

YOUNG ATHLETES AT PARKRUN – With a free week-end, 12 of our young athletes ran in the Oak Hill race last Saturday (see full result below). They were testing the course before the London Borough of Barnet Mini London trial on Saturday 28 February. The final Saturday to test the course is 14 February (no SBH fixture)

SOUTHERN INDOOR U20/SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – Took place at Lee Valley on 17-18 January Congratulations to our Southern Champions GEORGIA BELL U23 (800m) and AILIS MCGOVERN U20 (Pole Vault), STEFFI WILSON won a Silver Medal (200m) and ALANDO ALFRED won a Bronze Medal (Triple Jump)

60m – Senior Women Heat 4 SHEREEN CHARLES 2nd (SB 7.76), Semi-Final 2 3rd (SB 7.67) taking .09 of a second off her Heat time, in the Final SHEREEN finished 4th (SB 7.65) taking .02 of a second off her Semi-Final time

60m – U20 Women Heat 2 SABRINA BAKARE U20 2nd (PB 7.83) taking .09 of a second off his 2010 time, Semi-Final 3 SABRINA finished 3rd (PB 7.80) taking .03 of a second off her Heat time

60m – U20 Men Heat 8 GERALD MATTHEW U20 1st (PB 7.05) taking .35 of a second off his 2012 time, ANDREW AMOAH U20 2nd (PB 7.09) taking .08 of a second off his 2014 time, Semi-Final 1 2nd (PB 7.06) taking .03 of a second of his Heat time, in the Final ANDREW finished 4th (7.09)

200m – Senior Women Heat 2 STEFFI WILSON U23 1st (SB 25.43) in the Final STEFFI won the Silver Medal (SB 25.13) and is ranked UK No.5 U23 in 2015

400m – Senior Men Heat 3 TOM CAREY 6th (SB 53.79)

400m – U20 Women Heat 2 LILY BECKFORD U20 (2nd Claim) 1st (SB 55.62) which ranks her UK No.3 U20 in 2015, Semi-Final 1 1st (56.94) LILY did not start in the Final

400m – U20 Men Heat 2 SAM HAZELL U20 2nd (SB 51.81), Semi-Final 2 3rd (SB 51.47) taking .34 of a second of his Semi-Final time, in the Final SAM finished 5th (52.05)

800m – Senior Women Heat 1 GEORGIA BELL U23 1st (SB 2:15.34), KATE BARBER U23 4th (SB 2:27.96) in the Final GEORGIA won the Gold Medal by over 3 seconds (SB 2:10.99)

800m – Senior Men Heat 1 KIERAN MORELAND 5th (SB 2:15.97)

Long Jump – Senior Women Straight Final GABRIELLE ROWSELL 4th (SB 5.51m)

Triple Jump – U20 Men Straight Final ALANDO ALFRED U20 won the Bronze Medal (PB 14.05m) adding 23cm to his 2014 jump, and is ranked UK No.3 U20 in 2015

INDOOR JUMPS TRAINING – Following the success of the 2013/2014 series Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers and North London Network in conjunction with Sportivate, are promoting the 2015 series at Allianz Park commencing Wednesday 7January until Wednesday 25 March. The training camp will include an introduction to Pole Vault (coached by Angus McKenzie and Allan Sutton) and will also aim to improve the skills and knowledge of Network coaches and their athletes in High Jump (coached by Sue Smith), Long Jump and Triple Jump (coached by Alfredo Melao).  The camp is from 7.00pm to 9.00pm, warm up and registration 6.30pm. RUSSELL DEVITT V60 has recently returned to racing following an injury on 9 September, followed by an operation in November. He has now completed the following races.

26 December – Clevedon Boxing Day Run (4 miles road with big hill) – 565th (31st M60 35.10)

28 December – Buntingford 10 mile road race 316th (17th M60 1:29.53), 22nd Victoria Walker (2nd Woman 1:02.55), incidentally the first three to finish in this race were called Victoria – I wonder if that has ever happened before?

18 January – Fred Hughes 10 mile road race (hilly 10 mile road race in St Albans) 476th (14th M60 1:27.34), 6th Dan Davies 54.48
