Josh Kerr Smashes Mile World Record
British middle-distance star Josh Kerr produced a historic performance at the London Diamond League, breaking the men’s mile world record with a stunning time of 3:42.66. In front of a packed home crowd, Kerr took almost half a second off Hicham El Guerrouj’s record, which had stood for 27 years.
Kerr had made no secret of his ambition to rewrite the record books, and he delivered in spectacular fashion with a perfectly paced run. His achievement is one of the greatest moments in British athletics in recent years and further cements his place among the world’s best middle-distance runners.

Other Highlights from the London Diamond League
Josh Kerr’s world-record mile stole the headlines, but there were plenty of other outstanding performances in London. Keely Hodgkinson delighted the home crowd with victory in the women’s 800m, clocking 1:56.21 to claim her first Diamond League win of the season. The men’s 800m was one of the races of the day, with American Brandon Miller producing a lifetime best of 1:42.19 to edge Ireland’s Mark English, while Britain’s Max Burgin finished a close third in 1:43.30. In the women’s 200m, Olympic champion Julien Alfred continued her superb form with a meeting record of 21.66, ahead of Gabrielle Thomas. Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith finished fourth, with Amy Hunt close behind in fifth, both recording season’s best performances.
The packed London Stadium once again provided a fantastic atmosphere, with world-class performances giving fans plenty to look forward to ahead of the major championships later this summer.

Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers Athletes focus 
Zharnel Hughes lined up in the men’s 200m and produced another impressive performance, running 20.04 seconds to finish amongst a world-class field. The British record holder showed his trademark strength on the home straight, continuing his excellent form ahead of the major championships.
Emily Newnham also represented the club in the women’s 400m hurdles, clocking 54.53 seconds against a high-quality international field. The talented young athlete continues to gain valuable experience at the highest level and is establishing herself as one of Britain’s most exciting quarter-mile hurdlers.

In some sad news, we are remembering Tom McNab
The athletics world has lost one of its most respected figures with the passing of Tom McNab at the age of 92. A former international triple jumper for Scotland, Tom went on to make a lasting impact as a coach, administrator, author and historian.His influence reached far beyond competition, helping to develop British athletics through coaching, talent development and creating new opportunities for athletes. He also worked as the technical adviser for the film Chariots of Fire.
Tom’s passion, knowledge and commitment inspired generations of athletes and coaches. His contribution to athletics will be remembered for many years to come.
