National Athletics League
Kicking off a busy weekend for our Track Athletes, Saturday saw the third instalment of the National Athletics League, this was held on ‘home turf’ utilising our beautiful Track at StoneX. Whilst it had proven to be tight at the top of the board throughout much of the day and despite some last minute injuries, the club managed to top the table leading with 577 to Chelmsford AC with 531. This means the club have qualified for the Final round on 12th Sept. The quality is high with the club going up against some class clubs including Sheffield, City of York, Cardiff, Crawley, Blackheath, Yeovil and Chelmsford AC.
Whilst its the efforts of everyone who shows up on the day to score, I just wanted to highlight some stand out performances below –
Womens
Hayley Mclean leading the Womens 400M Hurdles in 59.48, with a sizeable gap on second place Belgrade Harrier in 1:06.56. Hayley also showed her superiority in the Hurdles in the 100m Hurdles winning in a time of 14.89. In the Womens 400m Holly Ryan continued her strong season with 2nd place in 59.51, whilst Dina Silverman came 2nd in the second race of the day with 1:02.19. Familiar names made up the women 4 x100m (Nia Forbes-Agyepong, Holly Ryan, Tami George and Makayla Brai-Aloye) with a winning time of 47.26.
Rebecca Wheeler-Henry and Akhaila Collins in 1st and 2nd place in the Womens High Jump with scores of 1.70 and 1.58 (PB). The Mens 1500m showed strong form from both Luca Stubbs and Gianleo Stubbs in 2nd and 3rd place in 4:01.07 and 4:01.91. In the Mens 200m Khyan Markland ran a PB for 2nd place in 21.63 whilst Zachary Bindon-Goss came 1st place in the second race of the day in 22.27. The competition will be tough for the Final so please discuss with your relevant Team Manager to see how you can contribute to the team on the day.
National Relay Championship
Rounding off a busy weekend many of our athletes competed in the National Relays up in Birmingham. This was a high quality field with some real excitement in the results.
The U18 Women won the 4x100m Heat with a PB of 47.40 to qualify for the finals, however were beaten in the Finals despite running another great PB of 47.15, they had to settle for second place to Cambridge Harriers in first. The U20 Women team would’ve won their 4x100m race, however were sadly DQ’d and the win went to Croydon Harriers. In the 4x400m Relays U18 Women had to settle for 4th place with a time of 4:02.62, still a PB.
The U16 Mens won the 4x100m Heat in a PB of 44.05 but had to settle for second place in 43.49 behind Croydon Harriers. The U20 Men won the 4x100m Heat in a PB of 41.55 to qualify for the finals, in the final they had to share an unusual equal 1st place with Be Fit Today in a time of 41.35. The Mens U18 4x100m saw SBH qualify for the finals in a PB of 43.14, however in a strong final they had to settle for 6th place in 43.29. For the 4x400m the U18 Men placed 7th in a strong field with a PB time of 3:28.93.
EYAL
Shaftesbury Juniors have qualified for the final in Chelmsford on 6th September, congrats to all coaches and athletes who have competed throughout this season – lets ensure we have a good show for the final to ensure we have the best chance of rounding off a successful season.
Further away… Big Performances in Chorzów
One of the biggest surprises came in the men’s 1500m, where American Ethan Strand produced a brilliant final lap to take the win in 3:30.77. Strand was only 11th at 800m but flew through the field over the closing stages to claim his first Diamond League victory. Phanuel Koech was second in 3:31.14, with Olympic champion Cole Hocker third in 3:31.16. Jakob Ingebrigtsen, making his return to Diamond League 1500m racing, finished fourth in 3:31.19. There were plenty of other highlights too. Mykolas Alekna produced another huge performance in the discus, while Oblique Seville took a high-quality men’s 100m in 9.83, finishing ahead of Kenny Bednarek and Christian Coleman. The women’s events were just as impressive. Tsige Duguma won the 1500m in 3:55.06, ahead of Jessica Hull and Dorcus Ewoi, while Natalia Bukowiecka ran 49.60 for fourth in the 400m and secured the qualifying standard for the 2027 World Championships.
There was also a strong home performance from Pia Skrzyszowska, who finished third in the 100m hurdles in 12.64, while Gianmarco Tamberi had already taken the men’s high jump on Saturday with 2.31m.
Lausanne Diamond League
The standout performance came from Audrey Werro, who produced another brilliant run in the women’s 800m. The newly crowned European champion delighted the home crowd by winning in a meeting record of 1:55.33, holding off a huge late challenge from Femke Broeders-Bol, who ran 1:55.41. It was another reminder of just how good Werro has been this season, and the pair will face some more familiar names in Zurich next week (including Georgia Hunter Bell and Lilian Odira. Keely Hodgkinson had been included in this line up but sadly had to pull out due to an on-going hamstring niggle)
There was also another impressive performance from Amy Hunt. Fresh from her incredible four European Championship gold medals in Birmingham, Hunt returned to Diamond League action and took second in the 200m in 22.18. She finished just behind American Kayla White, with Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson unfortunately pulling up with a hamstring problem.
In the men’s 800m, Emmanuel Wanyonyi finally picked up his first Diamond League win of the season, running 1:42.19. He held off Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati and American Brandon Miller, with Marco Arop finishing fourth.
The men’s 200m also delivered, with Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo winning in 19.87, continuing his strong form ahead of the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest. And there was plenty of excitement in the field events too. Mondo Duplantis won the pole vault with a huge 6.21m, before taking two attempts at 6.32m in an effort to break his own world record of 6.31m. He didn’t quite manage it this time, but it was another impressive night for the Swedish star.
Kejelcha Reclaims the World Half Marathon Record
On the road, Yomif Kejelcha has reclaimed the men’s half marathon world record, running a remarkable 56:51 in Buenos Aires. The Ethiopian knocked 29 seconds off Jacob Kiplimo’s previous record of 57:20, averaging an incredible 2:42 per kilometre over the 21.1km. Kejelcha previously held the record after running 57:30 in Valencia in 2024, before Kiplimo took it from him.
In the women’s race, fellow Ethiopian Fotyen Tesfay took the win in 1:03:57. .
ATHLOS LDN26 – World-class athletics comes to StoneX
Closer to home, just a reminder that Athlos is coming to StoneX Stadium this September.
The London line-up keeps getting stronger, with Tobi Amusan, the Nigerian 100m hurdles world record holder, now confirmed to compete. Joining already confirmed, Keely Hodgkinson headling the 800m as she looks to defend her ATHLOS title, while Georgia Hunter Bell, Amber Anning and Rhasidat Adeleke are also among the latest names confirmed.

Shaftesbury Alumni
Athlete Focus: Jacqui Agyepong
This month we look back at Jacqui Agyepong, a former Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers athlete who represented Great Britain at two Olympic Games. A specialist 100m hurdler, Jacqui competed at Barcelona 1992, where she reached the quarter-finals, before returning to the Olympic stage four years later in Atlanta 1996, running 13.24 in her heat.
Her international career also included two World Championships and two World Indoor Championships, while one of her standout achievements came at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, where she won silver in the 100m hurdles. Jacqui’s personal best was 12.93, set in Lausanne in 1994.
It’s fantastic to look back at the SBH athletes who have made it all the way to the Olympic stage, and Jacqui’s two Olympic appearances are a brilliant part of the club’s history and as most of you will know, she still continues to contribute to the club as a Coach for Hurdles and Sprints.
