NATIONAL YOUNG ATHLETES ROAD RELAYS – Took place last Saturday at Sutton Park, Birmingham, on a very pleasant day

What a superb finish to the Road Relay season, with the Under 17 Men repeating their recent success at the Southern Championships, by becoming National Champions.

The first leg proved to be an exciting race with THOMAS PATRICK having a titanic battle with Cambridge and Reading, and finished the leg in 3rd place, with only 2 seconds separating the 3 of them. THOMAS’S time (11.52) was 5th fastest time of the day. THOMAS FULTON took up the challenge on Leg 2 running (12.05), and finished in a clear 2nd place, with Tonbridge now taken over the lead, which was due to James Puxty posting the fastest time of the day (11.42). Our final leg was in the hands of JEREMY DEMPSEY who was 9 seconds behind Tonbridge, his time of (11.55) for 6th fastest time of the day, taking 29 seconds out of Tonbridge who finished 3rd, Vale Royal moved up from 5th to take the Silver Medals. JEREMY’S run made us worthy National Champions, winning by 13 seconds. The ‘B’ team had JAMIE HARPER on leg 1 (12.21), and recent new member BEN WINFIELD ran (12.44) on leg 2.

Result ‘A’ Team 1st (35.52) Leg 1 THOMAS PATRICK (11.52), Leg 2 THOMAS FULTON (12.05), Leg 3 JEREMY DEMPSEY (11.55), ‘B’ Team incomplete Leg 1 JAMIE HARPER (12.21), Leg 2 BEN WINFIELD (12.44) – Team result 2nd Vale Royal (36.05), 3rd Tonbridge (36.12), 45 team finished, the fastest leg was by James Puxty of Tonbridge (11.42)

Under 13 Girls finished in an excellent 9th place, SYDNEY ALLEN ran a steady 1st leg finished 26th, AIMI WEIGHTMAN stormed through the field, running the 3rd fastest time on Leg 2, gaining 16 places to finish in 10th place, ELEANOR RONCARATI ran an excellent final leg, recording the 8th fastest time on Leg 3.

Under 13 Boys finished in an excellent 8th place, with DYLAN MICHEL on the frantic 1st leg finished 16th, LUCA STUBBS stormed through the field, running a time just out of the top ten fastest time of the day and handed over in 4th place, SAMUEL GREENSTEIN who is a 1st year U13 ran a well an excellent final leg.

Under 15 Boys – Incomplete Team Leg 1 DANIEL GREENSTEIN (13.46) – Team result 1st Cambridge & Coleridge (38.19), 2nd Leeds City (38.47), 3rd Tonbridge (38.57), 49 teams finished, the fastest leg was by Alfie Bould of  Vale Royal (12.05)

Under 15 Girls ran a consistent race with SOPHIA DEMPSEY ran a steady 1st leg finishing 36th, SCARLETT KENT gained a place for 35th, and MIA GROOM ran the final Leg to finish in 31st place

Under 17 Women ran a very solid race finishing in 16th place, JOSEPHINE CHADWICK had a reasonable run handing over to SARAH BUTLER in 26th place, SARAH ran just over 15 minutes to gain 6 places, on leg 3 LIDIA KYRIACOU ran an identical time as SARAH (15.02), and gained 4 places, and her time was 10th fastest on leg 3.

SOUTHERN CROSS COUNTRY RELAYS – Takes place on Saturday 22 October at Wormwood Scrubs, Linford Christie Stadium, Du Cane Road (SatNav W12 0AE). Enter main car park off Du Cane Road (via Artillery Lane), through 6’6” height/width barrier. Extra parking will be available in the enclosed/fenced hospital parking area. Parking is free in all areas at the week-end. Start Times 11.00am U17 & U20 Women (3 x 2.5km), 11.30am U17 & U20 Men (3 x 3km), 12.10pm U13 Girls (3 x 2km), 12.40pm U13 Boys (3 x 2km), 1.10pm U15 Girls (3 x 2km), 1.35pm U15 Boys (3 x 2km), 2.00pm Senior Women (3 x 3km), 2.30pm Senior Men (4 x 5km).

NORTH WEST LONDON LEAGUE – The second fixture of five takes place on Saturday 29 October at Fryent Country Park, Kingsbury. Race headquarters is at the Kingsbury Free Church Hall, Slough Lane, Kingsbury (SatNav NW9 8QG). Please park in nearby roads, but not at church Hall. Toilets available at the Church Hall, no showers and very limited changing facilities.Church Hall will not be available until 11.30am. Start Times – Under 11 Girls (1500m) commence at 12.45pm, Under 13 Girls and Under 11 Boys (2200m) commence at 12.55pm, Under 15 Girls and Under 13 Boys (3000m) commence at 1.10pm, Under 17 Women and Under 15 Boys (4000m) commence at 1.30pm, Under 17 Men commence at 2.00pm, Numbers will be given out close to the start area.

SARACENS SPORT FOUNDATION – Little athletics programme is an athletics ‘Multi Skills’ programme for children aged 4-9 years. The programme is designed to teach children fundamental movement skills of athletics – running, jumping and throwing. The sessions are game based and as of September there will be a progression throughout the term. LAP runs on a Tuesday and Thursday from 4.30-5.30pm – Term time only.  

1st Legacy athletics club is a pathway club for children aged 10-15 years new to athletics. Children are introduced to all the different athletics disciplines and have the opportunity to develop running, jumping and running skills that we hope they will then go onto use as a participant in the formal athletics club structure or in any other sport for activity they choose to progress to. The lead coach is Gintare Dargeviciute who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the club. 1st Leg AC runs on a Tuesday and Thursday from 5.00–6.00pm – Term time only.
