SHAFTESBURY BARNET HARRIERS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – Is taking place this Thursday 28 November at Allianz Park. The meeting is being held in the Restaurant and will start at 19.30pm prompt, followed at 20.00pm with the presentation of the Boys 2012/2013 Cross Country and 2013 Track and Field awards.

BRITISH ATHLETIC CROSS CHALLENGE (INC EUROPEAN TRIALS) – Took place in Sefton Park, Liverpool on Saturday 23 November. Senior MenRICHARD GOODMAN U23 continued his excellent form and finished in 4th place (2nd U23 29.11), NIALL FLEMING U23 35th (30.23), the winner was Andy Vernon of Aldershot, Farnham & District (28.47), 515 runners finished. In the Junior Men’s race MICHAEL CALLEGARI U20 in a close finish came 5th (20.36) only 2 seconds behind the 3rd place finisher, the winner was Jonathan Davies of Reading (20.12), PHILLIP CROUT U20 31st (21.30), BEN ROCHFORD U20 51st (22.03), 96 runners finished. Finally the Senior WomenRACHEL FELTON had an excellent race finishing 17th (28.03), BETH POTTER U23 21st (28.22), MELISSA COURTNEY U23 32nd (28.59), VICTORIA WALKER U23 64th (31.27), the winner was Gemma Steel of Charnwood (26.36), 212 runners finished.

THE NORTH WEST LONDON LEAGUE, FOLLOWED BY THE NORTH LONDON CHAMPIONSHIPS – Took place in Mad Bess Woods, Ruislip last Saturday 23 November.

 

North West London League – There were wins JAMIE HARPER U13, also top 3 finishes from LIA RADUS U13 (3rd).  The UNDER 13 GIRLS, UNDER 13 BOYS and UNDER 17 WOMEN won the team event, with the UNDER 11 GIRLS and UNDER 15 GIRLS team finished in 3rd place. Full results are;

 

Under 11 Girls (1200m) MAAYAN RADUS 5th (4.52), ELIZA BLAYNE 6th (5.07), AMELIA CORBO 21st (5.30), TILLY ADAMS 22nd (5.33), EVEY BARTER 29th (5.45). Team Result 1st Highgate 12 points, 2nd Harrow 18, 3rd SBH “A” 32. The winner was D Brock of Highgate (4.34). 46 runners finished.

 

Under 11 Boys (2000m) MATTI HARRIS 9th (8.24), Team Result 1st Highgate  ‘A’ 33 points, 2nd Hillingdon 64, 3rd Highgate ‘B’ 67, 11th SBH 141. The winner was L Hunt of Harrow (7.53). 43 runners finished.

 

Under 13 Girls (2000m) LIA RADUS 3rd (7.55), SCARLETT KENT 7th (8.15), LIDIA KYRIACOU 11th (8.25), GEMMA HARPER 17th (8.51). Team Result 1st SBH “A” 15 points, 2nd Hillingdon 28, 3rd Highgate 37. The winner was C Buckley of TVH (7.34). 44 runners finished.

 

Under 13 Boys (3000m) JAMIE HARPER 1st (10.13), FINN HARVEY 4th (10.47), HENRY ROCHA 6th (10.58), SAMUEL LEE 12th (11.28), FRANKIE FOX 21st (12.00), JAMES TOON 37th (13.23), Team Result 1st SBH 23 points, 2nd Harrow 36, 3rd Hillingdon 56. 49 runners finished.

 

Under 15 Girls (3000m) GABRIELLA KYRIACOU 5th (11.22), JESSICA HURLEY 8th (11.35), GEORGIE MARLBOROUGH 11th (11.54), BETH HALBARD 16th (13.20), GEORGINA EMANUEL 19th (13.22), Team Result 1st TVH 11 points, 2nd Ealing 15, 3rd SBH 24, the winner was I Weir of Ealing (10.47). 24 runners finished.

 

Under 15 Boys (4000m) RUFUS KENT 21st (15.34), Team Result 1st Harrow 46 points, 2nd Dacorum & Tring 56, 3rd Ealing 58, 9th SBH 120, the winner was T McArdle of Trent Park (13.54). 32 runners finished.

 

Under 17 Women (4000m) REBECCA HURLEY 4th (16.43), EMMA DWAN 5th (16.57), Team Result 1st SBH 21 points, 2nd Trent Park 23, 3rd Enfield & Haringey 26, the winner was J Dos Santos of Trent Park (15.51). 11 runners finished.

 

Under 17 Men (4700m) No Runners, Team Result 1st Harrow 32 points, 2nd TVH 45, 3rd London Heathside 54. The winner was J Naylor of London Heathside (16.46). 21 runners finished.

 

These are my unofficial Team Positions after 2 matches – Under 13 Girls and Under 13 Boys are in 1st place, Under 17 Women in 2nd place and Under 11 Girls in 3rd place.

North London Championships – Senior Men (8000m) JAMES SOTHCOTT U20 20th (28.26), ROBERT RIGBY V50 42nd (29.40), GERALD FOX V40 62nd (31.07), the race was won by T Stasionis of Eton Manor (25.08), with 130 runners finishing. Senior Women (6000) MARIE MUNK-JACOBSEN 13th (23.37), the race was won by A Gounelas of Eton Manor (21.55), with 81 runners finishing.

 

DOUBLE WIN AT LONDON COLLEGES LEAGUE – Took place on 13 November on Wimbledon Common. In the Men’s race MICHAEL CALLEGARI U20 St Mary’s University (32.22) had a close win with fellow team members Daniel Woodgate finishing 2nd recording the same time and Matthew Withey was 3rd one second behind. In the Women’s race MELISSA COURTNEY U23 (18.01) Brunel University had a somewhat easier win by 42 seconds.  After 3 races Men’s team have 2182 points to Brunel University 1995 points. The Women’s position is St Mary’s University lead with 871 points, Brunel University are not far behind with 853 points.

HURDLES MASTER CLASS REMINDER – Is being held at the Willesden Sports Centre, Donnington Lane, NW10 3QX on Saturday 30 November from 10.30am – 12.30pm.

Olympian TONY JARRETT hosts a free coaching day for budding hurdlers aged 11-18 in London Schools, also in attendance is GLORY ALOZIE Sydney Olympic hurdles 100m silver medal winner.

SHAFTESBURY BARNET HARRIERS AND NORTH LONDON NETWORK, INDOOR TRAINING AT ALLIANZ PARK – The Network have agreed to promote a 10 week training camp at Allianz Park to improve the skills and knowledge of Network coaches and their athletes in Pole Vault, High Jump, Triple Jump and Long Jump. The camp will run from WEDNESDAY 16 OCTOBER to WEDNESDAY 18 DECEMBER inclusive. Following feedback from the athletes and coaches after the first 3 weeks of the scheme, we have decided to modify the arrangements as follows.

 

The weekly session will start at 19.00 and end at 21.00 (warm up starts at 18.30). The cost to athletes to attend per session will be £3 per head for young athletes (U20) and students and £5 per head for seniors to include entry into the facilities.

 

CALLING ALL UNDER 13 AND 15 HERTFORDSHIRE ATHLETES – Hertfordshire will be entering teams in the Regional Sportshall Championships on the 2 February 2014, which are taking place at the Hertfordshire Sports Village, Hertfordshire University.  These are U13 and U15 teams (age groups like cross country – as athletes were in the summer). Please note this is an Indoor event.

 

The trials for the Hertfordshire Sportshall Team will take place at the Gosling Sportshall on the following dates, Sunday 8 December 1.30pm to 3.30pm, and Sunday 15 December 11.00am to 1.00pm.

 

Those selected will be expected to attend the team practice on Saturday 25 January 1.30pm to 3.30pm, this is also the day of the Southern Cross Country Championships.

 

Please can you circulate this information to all interested athletes and coaches so that Hertfordshire have the strongest teams possible in each age group. It would be nice to reach the national final in April.

 

RESULTS – I endeavor to publish as many results as possible, as my main source is the power of 10 website. Unfortunately all races do not make the PO10. Therefore feel free to e-mail me the race, date and result if you have it, if not the result there is a good chance I can find it on Google.

The race starts at 2.30pm for Junior, Senor and Veteran Men/Women. Numbers will be given out close to the start area. Note: You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and run.

 

Saturday 7 December – North West London League Match 3 – Being held in Trent Park, Cockfosters Road, Middlesex EN4 0PS. Start times Southern Masters 11.00am Men 50 and over (10km), 11.43am Women 40 plus, 50 plus, 60 plus and Men 70 plus (6km), 2.10pm Men 40 plus (10km). Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your respective Team Manager. Start times Inter Counties 11.04am U13 Girls (3km), 11.20am U13 Boys (3km), 11.40am U15 Girls (4km), 12.25pm U15 Boys (4km), 12.50pm U17 Men (5km), 1.15pm U17 Women (5km) and U20 Women (6km), 1.40pm U23 and Senior Women (6km). Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your respective County Team Manager.

 

Saturday 21 December – Active Training World Metropolitan League Match 3 – Alexandra Palace which is accessible by road from junction of Park Road, Priory Road and Muswell Hill (western end). Getting there: W3 bus runs through Palace grounds. W7 runs past western end. BR to Alexandra Palace on Kings Cross line, or Piccadilly Line to Wood Green, then W3. Parking: Paddock Car Park from western end – park adjoins start area. Directions by road: A406 North Circular – exit at B550 Colney Hatch Lane, then onwards to Muswell Hill. The course itself: Again pretty flat! Start and Finish on a grass field, the rest is undulating, with a very steep climb/descent in parkland. You will definitely need spikes!

 

Start times 1.15pm U13 Boys (3km), 1.20pm U13 Girls (3km), not before 1.35pm U17 Men and U15 Boys (4km), not before 1.40pm U17 Women and U15 Girls (4km), not before 1.55pm U20, Senior and Veteran Women (6km), not before 2.35pm U20, Senior and Veteran Men (8km). Thursday 26 December – Boxing Day Bonanza – Takes place at Allianz Park and Starts at 11.00am. £1 entry fee, there will be prizes, raffle and refreshments, and why not come in fancy dress, and in Ray Powell’s case come as normal.
