SHAFTESBURY BARNET HARRIERS AND NORTH LONDON NETWORK, INDOOR TRAINING AT ALLIANZ PARK – The Network have agreed to promote a 10 week training camp at Allianz Park to improve the skills and knowledge of Network coaches and their athletes in Pole Vault, High Jump, Triple Jump and Long Jump. The camp will run from WEDNESDAY 16 OCTOBER to WEDNESDAY 18 DECEMBER inclusive. Following feedback from the athletes and coaches after the first 3 weeks of the scheme, we have decided to modify the arrangements as follows.

The weekly session will start at 19.00 and end at 21.00 (warm up starts at 18.30). The cost to athletes to attend per session will be £3 per head for young athletes (U20) and students and £5 per head for seniors to include entry into the facilities.

NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY RELAYS – Took place last Saturday 2 November at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire NG18 4JR. With the weather being mild with intermittent showers, we had a reasonable day. Our team results were U17 Men 4th, U13 Boys 7th, U15 Boys and Under 20 Men 9th, Senior Women 11th, U17 Women 20th, U13 Girls 21st, U15 Girls 52nd and Senior Men 66th.

Four of our runners recorded top 10 times in their respective race, LIAM DEE 3rd fastest, JAMIE DEE 6th fastest, GLEN WATTS and BETH POTTER were 9th fastest.

Under 13 Boys – “A” Team Leg 1 HENRY FULTON 34th (7:33.85), Leg 2 JAMIE HARPER 10th (7:15.80), Leg 3 NATHAN FERNANDES 7th (7:22.95), Team finished 7th (22:12.60).  “B” Team Leg 1 FREDDIE SHIRET 40th (7:37.85), Leg 2 ANDREW ROGERS 47th (8:14.15), Leg 3 HENRY ROCHA 42nd (7:59.65), Team finished 42nd (23:51.65). “C” Team Leg 1 BEN BELLISARIO 84th (8:26.75), Leg 2 THOMAS BRENNAN 75th (8:40.80). Result 1st Team Bath (21:24.75), 2nd City of York (21:44.90), 3rd Charnwood (21:48.25). Fastest leg Hayden Bailey of Team Bath (6:45.65), 79 teams finished.

Under 13 Girls – “A” Team Leg 1 LIA RADUS 36th (8:05.05), Leg 2 SCARLETT KENT 30th (8:25.15), Leg 3 MIA GROOM 21st (8:07.95), Team finished 21st (24:38.15).  “B” Team Leg 1 OLIVIA BOWEN 56th (8:26.55), Leg 2 NICOLE BOWEN 52nd (8:52.85), Leg 3 LIDIA KYRIACOU 50th (8:55.75), Team finished 50th (26:15.25). “C” Team Leg 1 SOPHIA DEMPSEY 79th (8:50.35), Leg 2 GEMMA HARPER 76th (9:28.00), Leg 3 KAYLA MICHEL 65th (8:50.00), Team finished 65th (27:08.35). Result 1st Herne Hill Harriers (22:28.75), 2nd Tonbridge (22:36.10), 3rd Liverpool Harriers (23:11.75). Fastest leg Kathleen Faes of Tonbridge (7:12.95), 83 teams finished.

Under 15 Boys – “A” Team Leg 1 JEREMY DEMPSEY 25th (6:52.15), Leg 2 GEORGE GROOM 6th (6:47.40), Leg 3 THOMAS FULTON 9th (7:10.50), Team finished 9th (20:50.05).  “B” Team Leg 1 ADAM SHIRET 64th (7:23.30), Leg 2 ELLIOT DEE 43rd (7:17.35), Leg 3 JAMES BRENNAN 43rd (7:24.20), Team finished 43rd (22:04.85). “C” Team Leg 1 NATHAN DAVIES 55th (7:17.60), Leg 2 RUFUS KENT 75th (7:48.05), Leg 3 HAMZA KADIR 57th (7:32.65), Team finished 57th (22:38.30).

Under 17 Men – “A” Team Leg 1 JAMIE DEE 3rd (9:09.05) 6th fastest time of the race, Leg 2 SAM GRIFFITHS 2nd (9:40.70), Leg 3 ROBBIE LIGHTOWLER 4th (9:27.00), Team finished 4th (28:16.75). “B” Team Leg 1 BILLY KELSEY 41st (10:03.95), Leg 2 JAMES BRENNAN 29th (10:03.90), Leg 3 GREG COOKE 18th (9:49.75), Team finished 18th (29:57.60). “C” Team Leg 1 JOSH CLIFFORD 67th (10:32.35), Leg 2 KHALID-ALI AHMED 43rd (10:07.25). Result 1st Trafford (27:54.75), 2nd Vale Royal (27:59.85), 3rd Aldershot, Farnham & District “A” (28:07.45). Fastest leg Zak Miller of Trafford (8:48.95), 69 teams finished.

Under 17 Women – “A” Team Leg 1 NATALIE CONNOR 15th (9:24.35), Leg 2 CHLOE GOODSON 19th (10:10.70), Leg 3 REBECCA HURLEY 20th (10:27.45), Team finished 20th (30:02.50). Result 1st Birtley (27:27.30), 2nd Leicester Coritanian (27:37.25), 3rd Millfield School (27:39.10). Fastest leg Lydia Turner of Birtley (8:26.70), 52 teams finished.

Under 20 Men – “A” Team Leg 1 LIAM DEE 2nd (8:51.15) 3rd fastest time of the race, Leg 2 BEN ROCHFORD 7th (9:29.90), Leg 3 MICHAEL CALLEGARI 9th (9:04.35), Team finished 9th (27:25.40). “B” Team Leg 1 SAM WILSON 44th (9:40.75), Leg 2 KYLE LANGFORD 29th (9:44.65), Leg 3 JAMES SOTHCOTT 27th (10:02.60), Team finished 27th (29:28.00). Result 1st Tonbridge (27:05.70), 2nd Liverpool Harriers (27:07.35), 3rd Reading (27:13.00). Fastest leg Jonathan Davies of Reading (8:36.25), 56 teams finished. 

Under 20 Women – No Team. Result 1st Aldershot, Farnham & District “A” (25:19.15), 2nd Aldershot, Farnham & District “B” (26:37.40), 3rd Bedford & County (27:29.65). Fastest leg Emelia Gorecka of Aldershot, Farnham & District “A” (8:20.60), 26 teams finished.

Senior Men – Leg 1 GLEN WATTS 5th (15:46.85) 9th fastest time of the race, Leg 2 NIALL FLEMING 6th (16:15.30), Leg 3 RONAN BREEN V40 35th (19:14.00), Leg 4 TIM PARKIN 66th (22:05.05), Team finished 66th (1:13:21.00). Result 1st Aldershot, Farnham & District (1:02:54.05), 2nd Sale Harriers Manchester (1:03:21.45), 3rd Bedford & County (1:03:55.05). Fastest leg Andy Vernon of Aldershot, Farnham & District “A” (15:02.10), 157 teams finished.

Senior Women – Leg 1 SOPHIE CONNOR U23 15th (10:33.30), Leg 2 BETH POTTER U23 4th (10:13.15) 9th fastest time of the race, Leg 3 VICTORIA WALKER U23 11th (11:44.55), Team finished 11th (32:31.00). Result 1st Aldershot, Farnham & District “A” (30:00.95), 2nd Aldershot, Farnham & District “B” (31:26.45), 3rd City of Stoke (31:35.45). Fastest leg Lily Partridge of Aldershot, Farnham & District “A” (9:48.70), 99 teams finished.

GOLD AND SILVER MEDALS AT THE WORLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS – The World Masters took place in Porto Alegre, Brazil from 16-27 October. Congratulations to GREG DUNSON V45 who won the 110m Hurdles Gold Medal, he also won the World Title in 2009 and 2011, and NENGI OSSAI V35 competing in his first World Championships took the 100m Silver Medal.

110m Hurdles M40GREG DUNSON V45 in a straight Final Greg took the Gold Medal winning by 1.28 seconds (SB 15.26 w-0.2 m/s), which ranks him UK No.1 V45 in 2013.

100m M35NENGI OSSAI V35 Heat 2 1st (11.06), Semi-Final 1 1st (10.96), In the Final Nengi took a well-deserved Silver Medal (SB 10.91 w0.0 m/s) which ranks him UK No.2 V35 in 2013.

200m M35NENGI OSSAI V35 Heat 2 1st (23.07 w-0.1 m/s), Semi-Final 2 1st (22.13 w-0.3 m/s), In the Final Nengi had a problem and did not finish.

ACTIVE TRAINING WORLD METROPOLITAN LEAGUE (CROSS COUNTRY) MATCH 2Takes place this Saturday 9 November. Changing is at the Sailing Centre, Fairlands Valley Park, Six Hills Way, Stevenage SG2 0BL (Note the Sailing Centre closes at 16.30pm). Directions from the A1(M) leave at Junction 7, A602 to Stevenage. Follow the A602, Broadhall Way to the second roundabout. Turn left onto Monkswood Way and go to the next roundabout. Turn right onto Six Hills Way and follow for almost 1 mile. Turn left into park, sign-posted Sailing Centre. (Note there are bridgeworks in Six Hills Way, the access to the Sailing Centre is about 100m after the mini roundabout at which the diversion starts. Drivers should ignore the sign and continue along Six Hills Way for the 100m and turn left into the Sailing Centre). The course is on the other side of Six Hills Way and there is an underpass under the road. Numbers will be given out on the course. Go to www.metleague.co.uk for map of area.

Stevenage Borough FC has been drawn at home in the FA Cup so will be playing at home on Saturday 9 November.  This will mean that the car park at the south end of the course will be busy although, on a first come first served basis, those arriving well before the match should be ok.  There is however other parking around the north part of the Park, not just in the main car park.

This is also the Cross Country Club Championship race for the Junior Men, 5 Miles Senior Men and Masters Men

STUART SINGER V50 5 DOWN WITH THE FINAL MARATHON IN TOKYO – Stuart at the start of the year set himself a target of running 6 Marathons in 12 months. Having already completed the BOSTON (3:35.51), LONDON (3:38.40), BERLIN (SB 3:26.33), CHICAGO (3:27.00) and last Sunday NEW YORK (3:36.58) now it on to the final race in TOKYO on 23 February.

NEW YORK MARATHON DANIEL DAVIES had an excellent run (2:35.26) finishing in 54th place and 2nd man home for Great Britain.

SMRAC SHOT AND DISCUS MASTER CLASS – which is followed by a Shot and Discus Throws Competition. Takes place on Sunday 10 November at St Mary’s University College Twickenham TW1 4SX. Times: 9:30am – 4:30pm. It is led by MIKE WINCH and JUDY OAKES who are former GB Internationals. HURDLES MASTER CLASS – Is being held at the Willesden Sports Centre, Donnington Lane, NW10 3QX on Saturday 30 November from 10.30am12.30pm. Olympian TONY JARRETT hosts a free coaching day for budding hurdlers aged 11-18 in London Schools. The course is in Mad Bess Woods which is 10-15 minutes’ walk from the clubhouse, and this is where the numbers will be given out. Start times for Junior/Senior Men’s and Women’s races to be confirmed. Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your Team Manager Simon Keene.
