DAVE BEDFORD – UK Athletics have announced the appointment of SBH Club President DAVE BEDFORD OBE to the Board of UKA as a non-executive director following his recent retirement from the Board of London Marathon. He brings a wealth of experience to the Board in the run-up to the Rio Olympics and the London World Championships. SBH have made a unique contribution to the Board of UKA with over 18 years of service provided by Dave’s predecessors BRYAN SMITH and ROGER SIMONS. I’m sure you will all join the Club Council in congratulating Dave on this new role at a critical time for our sport and its governing body.

CONGRATULATIONS TO NATHAN FOX – Took the British Indoor Triple Jump title in the Championships at Sheffield on 27 February. Tosin Oke who was representing Nigeria and therefore was not eligible to claim the British title.

CONGRATULATIONS TO RACHEL FELTON – She has been selected to represent GB&NI in the World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff, South Wales on Saturday 26 March.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CHRIS BENNETT – Will now receive financial backing from Sportscotland via a programme geared towards the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

ENGLISH SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – Took place in Nottingham last Saturday. Congratulations to JAMIE DEE who won the Silver Medal in the Senior Boys race.

Junior Boys (U15) – 4200m FINN HARVEY 45th (16.25), FREDDIE SHIRET 211th (17.24), 337 runners finished, the winner was Harris Mier of Cornwall (15.12)

Junior Girls (U15) – 3500m MIA GROOM 162nd (14.13), SOPHIA DEMPSEY 195th (14.23), SCARLETT KENT 199th (14.25), 339 runners finished, the winner was Ashleigh Armstrong of Heanor (11.49)

Intermediate Boys (U17) – 5700m JEREMY DEMPSEY 6th (18.13) and as a result has been selected to represent English Schools at the SIAB, ELLIOT DEE 11th (18.32), NATHAN GAMMON 230th (20.35), 335 runners finished, the winner was Matthew Willis of Wrexham (17.58)

Intermediate Women (U17) – 3900m JOSEPHINE CHADWICK 198th (15.07), SARAH BUTLER 204th (15.10), LIDIA KYRIACOU 240th (15.24), 343 runners finished, the winner was Josie Czura of City of Portsmouth (12.56)

Senior Women (U20) – 4200m GABRIELLA KYRIACOU 23rd (17.28), CHARLOTTE JOHNSTON 83rd (18.26), REBECCA HURLEY 145th (19.07), 307 runners finished, the winner was Sabrina Sinha of Cambridge Harriers (16.19)

Senior Boys (U20) – 7000m JAMIE DEE won the Silver Medal (20.57), 310 runners finished, the winner was Alex Yee of Kent (20.24)

SCOTTISH U20 INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – Took place in Glasgow on 5-6 March.

Congratulations to recent new members BEN and LEWIS MCGUIRE, plus GEORGE EVANS completed a hat-trick of gold-medallists. In fact BEN and LEWIS are brothers in a set of identical triplets.

High Jump – U20M LEWIS MCGUIRE won the Gold Medal (PB 2.06m) adding 1cm to his 2015 jump, and is ranked UK No.3 U20 in 2016

Long Jump – U20M BEN MCGUIRE won the Gold Medal (PB 7.10m) adding 16cm to his 2015 jump, and is ranked UK No.4 U20 in 2016

Shot 6kg – U20M GEORGE EVANS won the Gold Medal (15.74m) consolidating his No.2 in the UK U20 rankings 

NORTH WEST LONDON LEAGUE – The fifth of five fixtures took place last Saturday at Wormwood Scrubs. Tony Smith tells me it was fairly cold, and the ground was firm.

Firstly Congratulations to SARON RICHARDSON (U11G) and SAMUEL GREENSTEIN (U11B) who won the Cross Country Club Championship for 2015-2016, for their age-group. Also the final Club Cross Country Points Tables winners for 2015-2016 were decided, and the first three positions are as follows – Under 11 Girls – 1st Aimi Weightman 32 points, 2nd Saron Richardson 21 points, 3rd Anna Murphy 19 points. Under 13 Girls – 1st Sydney Allen 31 points, 2nd Elena Roncarti 23 points, 3rd Jessica Moore 19 points. Under 15 Girls – 1st Josephine Chadwick 32 points, 2nd Kayla Michel 22 points, 3rd Sarah Butler 21 points.

Under 11 Boys – 1st Samuel Greenstein 32 points, 2nd Toby Edwards 22 points, 3rd Leo Roncarti 13 points. Under 13 Boys – 1st Dylan Michel 31 points, 2nd Matthew McAteer 28 points, 3rd Lucca Stubbs 16 points. Under 15 Boys – 1st Daniel Greenstein 28 points, 2nd Jamie Harper 21 points, 3rd Thomas Patrick 15 points.

All the above totals are based on the best 4 results of the 6 fixtures available.

Individually we had wins from SAMUEL GREENSTEIN (U11), DYLAN MICHEL (U13) and SOPHIA STAAB (U15). The Under 15 Girls teams finished 1st, Under 13 Boys finished 4th, Under 17 Men finished 5th and Under 15 Boys 6th.

Under 11 Girls – (1200m) SARON RICHARDSON 18th (5.35), 38 runners finished, the winner was K.Price of Thames Valley Harriers (4.44). Team result 1st Thames Valley Harriers (13 points), 2nd Cookham ‘A’ (15 points), 3rd Cookham “B” (32 points), 11th SBH (96 points)

Under 11 Boys – (2000m) SAMUEL GREENSTEIN 1st (7.40), TOBY EDWARDS 35th (8.53), LEO RONCARTI 40th (8.59), OMAR ALTHAAF 61st (12.53), 61 runners finished. Team result 1st Harrow (27 points), 2nd Highgate Harriers (39 points), 3rd Cookham (64 points), 9th SBH (137 points)

HIGHGATE HARRIERS OPEN MEETING Takes place at Parliament Hill on Wednesday 6 April. Open to all age-groups (certain events for the U11s).

INDOOR JUMPS TRAINING After the success of the 2014/15 series, the North London Athletics Network, in conjunction with Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, are promoting a further jumps training camp at Allianz Park.

High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump – Wednesdays 6 January to 16 March, 7.15pm to 9.15pm Warm-up and registration from 5.45pm.

Pole Vault – Wednesdays 13 January to 16 March, 6.00pm to 8.00pm Warm-up and registration from 5.45pm.

Coaches – High Jump SUE SMITH, Long & Triple Jump GINTARE DARGEVICIUTE, Pole Vault STEVE LOWE.

The programme is designed not only as an introduction to the event but is also aimed to improve the skills and knowledge of Network coaches and their athletes in all four events. The training camps will be under the overall supervision of CLYDE GORDON, the coaching administrator of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers.

Cost (including entry into the facilities) – Young athletes, U20 & students: £3 per session. Seniors: £5 per session

UK CAU INTER COUNTY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place next Saturday 12 March at Cofton Park, Birmingham. First race starts at 11.00am.

Directions – From M42 junction 1 and M5 junction 4 take the A38/A491 exit to Birmingham (SW). At the roundabout take the third exit onto Birmingham Road/A38 continue to follow the A38 (Bristol Road South) at the roundabout take the second exit onto Lickey road, B4120. Turn left onto Lowhill Lane for Cofton Park 

ENGLAND U15 & U17 COMBINED EVENTS INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place in Sheffield next Saturday 12 March and Sunday 13 March. Entries closed

HERTFORDSHIRE, MIDDLESEX AND KENT INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place at Lee Valley Athletics Centre are 61 Meridian Way, Edmonton (Satnav N9 0AR) on Saturday 19 March and Sunday 20 March. Entries closed

SOUTHERN MEN’S 12 STAGE AND WOMENS 6 STAGE ROAD RELAYS – Takes place on Sunday 20 March at the Cyclopark, The Tollgate, Wrotham Road, Gravesend, Kent (Satnav DA11 7NP). Start times 12.15pm Men (6 stages x 4.8km and 6 stages x 7.2km), 1.00pm Women (4 stages x 4.8km and 2 stages x 7.2km). Please note that the Cyclopark circuit is not available to us in the morning until 11.30 due to a Charity Event. However, car parking is available from 10.30am.

There is parking space for 300 cars. There is a parking fee of £2 payable on the day.

Changing Rooms and Café are in the Main Building. Toilets are outside the main building.

A Club Tent area is available on the course about 500m from the car park. Cyclopark allow no music,

barbecues or oil, electrical, gas or other apparatus in their grounds.

How to get there: The Cyclopark is alongside the A2. It is about 5 miles on the A2, east of junction 2 of the M25. From the A2 take the slip road to the A227 (Gravesend Central, Meopham), Turn north onto the A227 take third exit at the second roundabout. Cyclopark entrance is on the right.

Note: You will have to be pre-entered by your respective Team Manager.

As a member of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers you can apply for a form which will give you membership of Allianz Park, you can pick up the form from the reception at Allianz Park. Any official coach of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers gains entry free of charge.
