GREGOR MACLEAN – Congratulations to Gregor who has been selected to represent Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, following his personal best 5.45m in the Pole Vault at the British Athletic League match in Cardiff on 10 May.

NEW CLUB RECORD – Congratulations to KYLE LANGFORD who lowered the 800m Under 20 record, running 1:47.41 at the BMC Grand Prix at Watford on 17 May, and was also a UKA World Junior Qualification time. The previous record was 1:48.30 set by RICHARD CHARLES in Manchester on 1 June 2013.

JOSEPHINE CHADWICK – At last weeks’ EYAL Josephine’s time for the 1500m was incorrect, it was (PB 5:33.50) taking 9.80 seconds off her 2013 time.

UPCOMING FIXTURES FOR THE NEXT 3 WEEKS 

EUROPEAN CHAMPION CLUBS CUP Takes place this Saturday 24 May and Sunday 25 May at Villa Real De Santo, Portugal. The team travel on Thursday evening, and the Senior Men’s should be there or there abouts on Sunday evening. Our opponents are from Italy, Spain, Russia, Turkey, Portugal, France and Denmark. 

HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS – Takes place this Saturday 24 May at Woodside Stadium, Horseshoe Lane, Watford WD25 7HH, nearest large car park if the facility car parks are full is the Leavesden Country Park off College road WD5 0NR (approximately 1100 metres) which is a continuation of Horseshoe Lane.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS Takes place this Saturday 24 May and Sunday 25 May at the Lee Valley Athletic Centre, 61 Meridian Way, Edmonton, London N9 0AR. 

LONDON INTER CLUB CHALLENGE Takes place on Saturday 31 May at Allianz Park, Greenlands Lane, Hendon NW4 1Rl, and Is free to all members of Shaftesbury, but why not bring a friend and introduce him to athletics (there is a charge of £2 per event for non-members). Registration opens at 10.30am, and closes 30 minutes before the published start time. All events are for both male and female age-groups unless stated. Both track and field events commence at 12 noon. Note: You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and register.

QUADKIDS Takes place prior to the London Inter Club Challenge on Saturday 31 May. CLYDE GORDON will be managing the event, with registration from 9.30am, first event starts at 10.00am, and completion around 11.30am, and is free to enter for Shaftesbury members and is £2 for non-members. Quadkids is primarily for school years 3 to 7 inclusive, ie age 7 to 12 and includes the four core disciplines of running (600m), throwing (Vortex Howler), jumping (Long Jump) and sprinting (75m). All are welcome and Parents you may be asked to join in by helping out on maybe one of the events.

THE UK YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE UPPER AGE-GROUP SOUTHERN PREMIER ROUND 2 – Takes place on Sunday 1 June at the Norman Park Athletics Track, Hayes Lane, Bromley BR2 9EF. We finished only 5.5 points behind Windsor at Norwich in Round 1, this is our opportunity to reverse that result. LOUGHBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL – Took place on 18 May in Bedford, and is one of the most prestigious meetings of the season. We are competing as a composite team with Barnet & District. The result turned out to be a comfortable win for the Men’s team, 1st B&D/SBH 97 points, 2nd Enfield & Haringey 72, 3rd Ilford 66.
