SAINSBURY GRAND PRIX (INDOORS) – Took place in Birmingham last Saturday, in the 1 Mile race MELISSA COURTNEY U23 finished 7th in a personal best (4:35.48) taking 16.23 seconds off her 2007 time, and ranks her UK No.1 U23 in 2015. Our High Jumpers went head to head again with ALLAN SMITH had an outstanding competition finishing in 1st place (2.26m), DAVID SMITH finished in 5th place with a personal best (PB 2.26m) adding 1cm to his 1 February  jump, and ranks him UK No.2 in 2015. ALLAN will be competing for Great Britain in the European Indoor Championships in Prague, Czech Republic on 5-8 March.

BRITISH UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGES CHAMPIONSHIPS (INDOORS) – Took place in Sheffield Birmingham on 20-22 February. Congratulations to the following Gold Medallists, RICHARD CHARLES U23 who ran a season’s best (1:50.03) in the 800m, taking 4.72 seconds off his 14 February time, and ranks him UK No.2 U23 in 2015, GEORGIA BELL U23 made it an 800m double winning in a personal best (2:08.23). PHILIPPA LOWE won a Bronze Medal in the 400m in a personal best (54.50) taking .11 of a second off her 2014 time, and ranks her UK No.10 in 2015. Full results below

NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – Took place last Saturday 21 February at Parliament Hill Fields. A total number of 8,797 athletes were entered by their clubs, the best number since 1995 when the event was held at Newark.

Top honours went to GEORGE GROOM who produced and excellent performance in becoming English National Under 15 Boys Champion, winning by 11 seconds. The team of GEORGE, JEREMY DEMPSEY, ELLIOT DEE and JOSH EDWARDS missed out on winning the Bronze Medal by 1 point. In the Under 17 Men’s race JAMIE DEE finished in 9th place. Other humbugs who finished in the top 50 were GABRIELLA KYRIACOU 26th Under 17 Women, MARK PEARCE 21st Under 20 Men and RICHARD GOODMAN U23 31st Senior Men. Under 15 GirlsJOSEPHINE CHADWICK 107th (17.44), LIDIA KYRIACOU 131st (17.57), KIMBERLEY BALCOMBE 231st (19.21), KAYLA MICHEL 308th (20.47), GEORGIA LEE 310th (20.49), 379 runners finished. The winner was Kathleen Faes of Tonbridge (14.41). Under 17 MenJAMIE DEE 9th (21.03), OLIVER GREENSTEIN ran but did not have his chip on, 280 runners finished. The winner was Mahamed Mahamed of Southampton (20.00). Team result 1st Tonbridge (115 points), 2nd Aldershot, Farnham & District (163), 3rd Reading (223) 

Under 17 WomenGABRIELLA KYRIACOU 26th (20.59), AMALIA EDWARDS 136th (24.01), REBECCA ANDREOU 190th (26.04) 235 runners finished. The winner was Harriet Knowles-Jones of Warrington (18.22). WINTER CROSS COUNTRY POINTS UPDATE – These are the positions following the final Metropolitan League and last week-ends National Championships. A majority of the age-groups have now completed the season, and I congratulate not only the winners, but all of your who have made this season one of the best we have had.

2014 UK MASTERS ROAD RANKINGS RACHEL FELTON V35 was ranked No.3 in the 10K with her (34.44) in Leeds on 16 November

LONDON BOROUGH OF BARNET MINI LONDON MARATHON TRIAL – Takes place this Saturday at Oak Hill Park, here’s wishing our athletes a successful day.

QUALIFIED COACHES REQUIRED – I am looking for qualified coaches to help support delivery of after Schools Athletics sessions in local Schools in Barnet. All sessions will be paid! (Rate on application based on qualifications & experience).

COACHING COURSES AT ALLIANZ PARK – The following courses are – Sunday 1 March Leadership in Running Fitness (LIRF) cost is £170, Saturday 18 April and Sunday 19 April Coaching Assistant cost is £135. INDOOR JUMPS TRAINING – Following the success of the 2013/2014 series Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers and North London Network in conjunction with Sportivate, are promoting the 2015 series at Allianz Park commencing Wednesday 7January until Wednesday 25 March.

The training camp will include an introduction to Pole Vault (coached by Angus McKenzie and Allan Sutton) and will also aim to improve the skills and knowledge of Network coaches and their athletes in High Jump (coached by Greg Dunson), Long Jump and Triple Jump (coached by Michael Brown).

The camp is from 7.00pm to 9.00pm, warm up and registration 6.30pm. Cost (including entry into the facilities) – Young Athletes (U20) & Students: £3 per session, Seniors: £5 per session.

LONDON BOROUGH OF BARNET LONDON MINI MARATHON TRIAL – Takes place on Saturday 28 February at Oak Hill Park, East Barnet. The trial is held in conjunction with the Parkrun race and starts at 9.00am.

The Middlesex Schools Cross Country Championships place in Harrow School on 5 February
