HELP WANTED – PARENTS – we need your help to ensure your child can compete at all their events this season!
Volunteering to help on the track or field at just a couple of our home and away fixtures in 2025, will give us certainty early on that the meetings can go ahead. It’s a fun way to be involved on the day, you will still be free to watch your child’s events, lunches and refreshments are always provided at our home fixtures and at most away ones too.
Please contact either GERALD ALTERMAN or ROSALIND ZEFFERTT for further information or complete this form SBH 2025 Summer Availability.

RESULTS
Just to clarify, that the results I publish can be different to those that are shown on the Power of 10. The differences relate to seasons and personal best performances. For example in the recent EYAL results, an athlete in the 200m ran (24.1), and on his profile his season’s best was shown as (23.88) indoors. As the 200m indoors and outdoors are totally different type of events, I had shown the (24.1) as a season’s best. Regarding Master athletes any personal best performances relate to their current age-groups, as Club Records for Masters age-groups are in 5 year periods.
UK YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH – The second fixture of three took place on Sunday 25 May at Eton
The provisional results were late in being published. Next week I will add and publish any athlete that recorded a season or personal best (From the PO10).

GOLDEN TRIO OF ANN PACKER, KELLY HOLMES AND KEELY HODGKINSON UNITS AT THE GREAT MANCHESTER RUN LAST SUNDAY – The following article was published on the Athletics Weekly website recently.
Photograph of KEELY HODGKINSON, ANN PACKER and KELLY HOLMES taken by PAUL FREARY, and ANN PACKER taken MARK SHEARMAN. by
Three generations of British Olympic 800m champions met up for the first time at the Great Manchester Run on Sunday (May 18). ANN PACKER won Olympic gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 alongside fellow British champions at those Games – long jumper LYNN DAVIES, race walker KEN MATTHEWS and combined eventer MARY RAND. PACKER competed internationally in the sprints, hurdles and long jump and was Britain’s fourth-ranked pentathlete in 1963. Going into the Tokyo Games she was better known as a 400m runner.
As AW editor at the time, MEL WATMAN, wrote: “It was a journey into the unknown, yet PACKER raced with impeccable judgement. Sixth at the bell in (59.1), she was third at 600m in (90.7) and second to MARYVONNE DUPUREUR around the final turn. The Frenchwoman was still five metres ahead entering the final straight but as she began to flag so PACKER’S stride lengthened and her spirits soared. As the crowd of nearly 70,000 roared with excitement and the British supporters went almost berserk, PACKER rushed past her defenceless rival some 60m out and, with a beatific smile on her face, broke the tape five metres clear in a world record of (2:01.1) … becoming the first British woman to win an Olympic track title.”
Britain had to wait 40 years for another women’s 800m champion when KELLY HOLMES struck gold at the Athens Games in 2004 and later completed a golden double with 1500m victory. On her 800m win, we reported: “As they reached the home straight, HOLMES took over. She was ahead, gold was hers and amazingly there was no response from MUTOLA, but there was from two sources that looked like they had been beaten. “As the line drew closer, HASNA BENHASSI, of Morocco and Slovenia’s JOLANDA CEPLAK were edging nearer. But not enough. HOLMES won, not that she could even believe it, her eyes looking like they were going to pop out of their sockets as she waited for confirmation on the scoreboard. “She triumphed in (1:56.38), a season’s best time ahead of BENHASSI, who was second in (1:56.43), a national record, with Ceplak third in (1:56.43).”
Twenty years later, KEELY HODGKINSON completed a hat-trick of British 800m victories at the Olympics as she struck gold in Paris. Controlling the race with ease, she clocked (1:56.72) to beat TSIGIE DUGUMA of Ethiopia and MARY MORAA of Kenya. “This is the first time we’ve ever been together!” said HOLMES. HODGKINSON added: “I’m just joined the club too.” PACKER, who is now aged 83, said: “When I won it was the early days of 800m and sprinters hadn’t at that point really gone into that event. I was quite comfortable on the first lap and then it was a case of hanging on in the third 200m and then coming home.” HOLMES added: “Like ANN, I wasn’t meant to be doing the 800m either. And as everyone saw on my face, it was a shock too. It wasn’t as big a margin as ANN won by in 1964, but a win’s a win, right?” HODGKINSON said: “Paris was everything I dreamed of … and I was meant to be doing the 800m at the Olympics! I was definitely inspired by the great ladies who came before me, too.”
NOEL LYLES TO COMPETE AT LONDON DIAMOND LEAGUE – The following article was published on the Athletics Weekly website recently.
Olympic 100m champion will tackle that event on July 19 in the British capital, and the reigning Olympic and world champion Noah Lyles will race over 100m.
The US star – a triple gold medallist at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest over 100m, 200m and in the 4x100m relay – is a proven championship performer. He won gold in the 100m at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in a lifetime best of (9.79), making him the 12th fastest man in history. He took bronze in the 200m despite struggling with Covid. Prior to Paris, LYLES had excelled in London where he clocked (9.81) to take victory in a high quality 100m – his quickest ever at the time.
“My road to defending my world titles in Tokyo in September goes through London,” said the 27-year-old. “I’ve had great experiences there the last two years, running some of my fastest times, and I look forward to another in July. See you there!” The race will no doubt give British sprinters like ZHARNELL HUGHES and LOUIE HICHCLIFFE a great opportunity to test themselves against the Olympic champion in the run-up to the World Championships in Tokyo in September.
Athletes who have already committed to competing at the London Diamond League including KEELY HODGINSON, plus FEMKE BOL, MOLLY CAUDERY and MORGAN LAKE. LYLES, who won 200m gold at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene in a US record of (19.31), successfully defending the title he’d won in Doha 2019, opened his 2025 season at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida in April with a 400m PB (45.87).
The London Athletics Meet – the world’s biggest one-day athletics event – is the 11th meeting of the 2025 Wanda Diamond League.
THE ENDURING APPEAL OF THE GOTZIS HYPOMEETING – The following article was published on the Athletics Weekly website recently.
As it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary, GABRIELLA PIERACCINI looks at the rich history of the Götzis Hypomeeting in Austria. “A good old-fashioned wallow in nostalgia,” my editor mused, as we pondered how best to set the scene for the 50th anniversary of the Götzis Hypomeeting at the end of May. “The roll of honour. Some pointers on how influential it’s been through the years. Can you do 1500 words?” Some writing and gorgeous wallowing on 100 days of world-class athletics? Count me in.
Celebrating the history. Götzis is, without doubt, the finest track and field meeting anywhere in the world. The pages of this, and many other, athletics publications are rich with gushing praise of the gold standard set year after year by the organisers. The fan experience, the athlete experience, the media experience, the coach experience. Simple athletics, done beautifully. The Götzis Hypomeeting has taken place every year since 1975, save for the Covid-ravaged season of 2020. For the 50th anniversary edition, the usual celebrations have been gilded accordingly. Special invitations have been extended to those who won multiple editions of the competition, as well as one-off winners who went on to win a world or Olympic title. The most prolific of all the multiple winners is the 2021 Olympic champion DAMIAN WARNER of Canada, who has been the victor no fewer than eight times, and six times in a row between 2016 and 2022. His most recent streak was broken in 2023 by compatriot PIERCE LEPAGE, who went on to win the world title in Budapest that year.
Czechia’s ROMAN SEBRIE is a five-time winner, and in 2001 in Götzis he became the first man to ever score over 9000 points, a feat only achieved since by three others – ASHTON EATON, KEVIN MAYER and WARNER. Great Britain’s DALEY THOMPSON won the title twice, in 1980 and 1982, setting world records on both occasions. Sweden’s 2004 Olympic champion CAROLINA KLUFT won in Götzis five times between 2003 and 2007, and JANE FREDERICK of the USA won five times between 1978 and 1985, straddling the evolution from pentathlon to heptathlon.ANKE BEHMER, representing the German Democratic Republic, won in the three years leading up to the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989, and passed the baton to SABINE BRAUN to win for Germany in the three years afterwards.
The 2012 Olympic champion JESSICA ENNIS-HILL took the title in Götzis in 2010, 2011 and 2012, while double world champion KATARINA JOHNSON-THOMPSON won in 2014 and 2019 and triple Olympic champion NAFISSATOU THIAM won in 2017 and 2018. ROBERT ZMELIK of Czechia, who won in 1992, holds the world best for the one-hour decathlon (7897, compared to his “normal” decathlon PB of 8627). EDUARD HAMALAINEN, who won three times in the mid-nineties, is an athlete to retain for trivia purposes, having competed in three different world championships representing a different country each time – the Soviet Union, Belarus and Finland. ANDREI KRAUCHANKA of Belarus won in 2007, and in recent years has been a leading sporting figure speaking out against the current political regime in his native country.
The 2023 “Rookie of the Year” title was won by SANDER SKOTHEIM of Norway, who claimed European and world gold indoors this season, along with breaking KEVIN MAYER’S European heptathlon record. ASH MOLONEY, RICO FREIMUTH, LEONEL SUAREZ, SOFIE DOKTER, HENRIETTE JAEGER, NADINE VISSER and DAFNE SCHIPPERS were all former rookies of their year. In 2024 Great Britain’s Abi Pawlett won that honour on her Götzis debut.
The list of famous winners goes on. TREY HARDEE. BRYAN CLAY. DMITRY KARPOV. ERKI NOOL. MICHAEL SMITH. CHRISTIAN PLAZIAT. SIGGI WENTZ. CHRISTIAN SCHENK. GUIDO KRATSCHMER. NATALYA DOBRYNSKA. EUNICE BARBER. DENISE LEWIS. GHADA SHOUAA. JACKIE JOYNER KERSEE. ANNA HALL. The careers of champions born, consolidated, and celebrated in a small, unassuming town in the westernmost corner of Austria.
